Is PoE really a MMORPG?

Well only cities are shared. It's like Guild Wars 1. Closest thing you can call it is a "Instanced MMORPG" but that's really not a thing, at the end of the day it's not an mmorpg. Guild Wars 2 is an mmorpg. Big shared World, not just a small party of people.

Lol, ppl these days forgot what actual mmo rly is and are going with that stupid trend calling all multiplayer games a mmo. By this standard CS:GO is mmo and mobas are mmo, gg thinking. Hell if u play solitare and u have all these players online and a some sort of hub to meet like a forum lol there u go - a mmo.

EDIT:
In fact it is actually harmful to real MMOs because thes milenials after playing "a MMO like d3 or warframe or poe" then they go to a real MMO game and they start to demand "I played mmo it is like a singleplayer game but with ppl to do stuff with right?? Why isnt this game like this??? Why it require me to group up lololololl?! Stupid game! Im not gonna pay me monies here!". And they kinda contribute to real mmo dying out, slowly changing them to singleplyer with some multi/social elements games.

As an old, old hand at MMOs, the old group only focus died out a long time ago anyway.

Most MMOs nowadays are basically single player games with auto group dungeons through the whole level process (thanks, WoW) and then finally guild/group raiding at end game where like 90% of people quit because they don't want to go through the hassle of group play.

PoE is not an MMO, but modern MMOs are starting to resemble PoE to a certain extent.

Nah, it's obviously a visual novel.
POE is an Isometric Action Role-playing Game with Multiplayer Elements.
