Is PoE really a MMORPG?
|
with twitch adding new tags i just saw this
http://prntscr.com/l037tb i remember there being a debate back when PoE came to steam where it also has the same tag. so the question is who sets these tags? do the devs really see their game as mmorpg? what do you think makes an mmorpg and does PoE qualify for it? edit: as a reference, D2 as well as D3 are labeled only "action" and "rpg" on twitch! Lol, ppl these days forgot what actual mmo rly is and are going with that stupid trend calling all multiplayer games a mmo. By this standard CS:GO is mmo and mobas are mmo, gg thinking. Hell if u play solitare and u have all these players online and a some sort of hub to meet like a forum lol there u go - a mmo.
EDIT: In fact it is actually harmful to real MMOs because thes milenials after playing "a MMO like d3 or warframe or poe" then they go to a real MMO game and they start to demand "I played mmo it is like a singleplayer game but with ppl to do stuff with right?? Why isnt this game like this??? Why it require me to group up lololololl?! Stupid game! Im not gonna pay me monies here!". And they kinda contribute to real mmo dying out, slowly changing them to singleplyer with some multi/social elements games. I know all player come and say : "ahahah nice, u have try a bot u get ban, sooo nice" but i tell u its just for try, for see and for know. I have use this 10 minutes maximum and i have insta uninstall." - some not-too-bright dude, 2013; Joined 2012, † 2013. Last edited by Sarn88#3369 on Sep 29, 2018, 4:27:06 AM

The only part of PoE that could be considered an MMO is trading. Maybe the towns also, but that's a bit of a stretch already. Actual gameplay happens in a traditional single/multiplayer fashion.

Rpg is where you throw dices and a game master sitting next to you tells what happens next.

"I think it started when steam saw this upcoming trend where younger ppl started to look for "this cool games called mmo" and started to tag almost all multiplayer games in store an mmo just to milk some money out of the unaware young ones. And now we have this situation when this respectable old collosus - World of Warcraft is more of a singleplayer game than ever before. I know its not the only thing that contributed to this situation but it plyed a huge part in it. I know all player come and say : "ahahah nice, u have try a bot u get ban, sooo nice" but i tell u its just for try, for see and for know. I have use this 10 minutes maximum and i have insta uninstall." - some not-too-bright dude, 2013; Joined 2012, † 2013.

nah, I dont think it's an MMORPG
it's pretty much a single player with player interaction™ |

" thats also my thoughts on it. when i saw the tag on steam i even reported it as false tag thinking some kids set the tag not knowing what poe is. but now as we have it on twitch too i believe the tag is set by the devs. which kind of makes me sad. do they really need to set a missleading tag just to get more attention (and money)? and as vmt80 pointed out the correct tag would even be hack & slay alongside player interaction and/or multiplayer. "It is the Internet and not everything found is true. PoE is an ARPG (inspired by D2). Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.
