Is stacking 40 poison on bosses possible?

I don't understand how the poison minion can be viable against bosses. Even with 10 aps you inflict very few poison with 2s duration. And you have to dodge, as well.

Ty for your answer.

Virulence decays over time, not runs out when the Poison expires. So you simply have to keep inflicting Poison to stay at 40 Virulence to max out your Crawler.
"Into the Labyrinth!
left step, right step, step step, left left.
Into the Labyrinth!"
With poison duration support gems (Unbound Ailments), Unique items (Coralito's Signature/The Embalmer), Passive tree nodes, and Curses (Temporal Chains) you can get 6-7 second Poisons. Viper Strike being the oddball of having upwards of 16-20 second poisons.
attack, sidestep, profit.

get yourself a quill rain and you're pretty much at max stacks permanently if you have something to hit.
the issue will be accuracy for the barrage but that should not be a problem for ranger. maybe add a ring with poacher's mark and we set.

40 stacks is pretty extreme, which is why the decay scales as it does to the point any stacks after like 25 almost immediately disappear within like 250ms. You're only going to "reliably" hit 40 stacks when clearing ...and for brief fractions of a second.

It'll be normal to stick at around 25 stacks for boss fights.
First off the stacks of virulence isn't dependent on your poison duration. For EVERY poison you inflict you gain a stack of virulence.

Virulence doesn't stop when no enemies are poisoned - it decays over time (decaying slower at lower stacks and faster at higher stacks)

the best possible way of stacking virulence is probably using molten strike, Greater multiple projectiles, added chaos damage and multi-strike support. (This is referenced from the Molten Acid build that was showcased a few weeks ago)

This should keep your Virulence stacks maxed out against bosses, and also you will probably inflict a lot of damage yourself.

I was thinking of probably going for an assassin - using noxious strike you keep increasing your poison duration while your crawler is also dishing out some mad damage. (being near max stacks of virulence)

Now - the new reworked gem "Vicious Projectiles" will probably further buff your chaos/poison damage from molten strike.
Barrage will do 40+ in a second if your building it that way, always been a funny way to get ridiculous poison durations as assassin

Im thinking about ball lighting with some added some phys spell dmg with gmp, poison support fo 60% poison chance and slower projectiles or spell echo. Number of hits should be quite high with poison gem support. Will try as necromancer probably and bl will help me also wih elemental equilibrium.
Not sure if added 10 phys spell dmg is enought for poisoning or not. Seems no need any poison duration, but do we need enoghut dmg to apply poison....Also necro with both new heralds seems funy for me

There is no minimum amount of damage you need to do to poison. As long as the poison deals a non-zero damage it will be applied.

(Due to rounding you could run into problems with something like literally 1 base damage; but with 10 base damage you have 2 chaos damage/sec poison, which is more than you need.)
