-resistances and penetration?

Lots of stuff coming out with -resistances and penetration. Maybe they've given up their fear of immunities and we'll need it to break resistances over 100%.

Would u like to have 20% penetration or lets say 30% less resistances on nearby monsters?
Sure. But two of the items showcased so far have had either one or the other. Think they're sending us a signal.
I think this new mod -% resistances is a nice add for aurabots, guardian, Necromancers, dot builds, but not for main self hitting builds.

I thinks it's just GG releasing random items. If elemental penetration is any good in the upcoming delve, they'd need to nerf inquisitor first, since he already ignores all resistances.

I used to go by this philosophy too, but "datamining" seems to show that all the tough enemies (aka Map Bosses, including Shaper & Guardians) all have about 30-40% base resistance, which makes overcap practically non-existent on hard enemies (pretty much the only source of bonus resistance they'll get is from the map mod +40%), and thanks to Rare Monsters not getting indexed for power creep, rare monsters usually take 0.1 seconds to kill, so even if they had 60% overcap your 0.1 second turns into 0.4 second and no one bats an eye.

EDIT: So basically the only time penetration vs. lower-resist matters AKA the only time a difficult monster gets overcap, that I can think of in today's meta, is 3-4 essence Rares on Maps with +x% resistance.

therefore nowadays for my theorycrafting personally I view penetration and lower-resist in pretty much the same vein, just keeping in mind that if I go for lower-resist then I may struggle against some 3-4 Essence Rare Monsters.

EDIT2: altho obviously we don't know how Delve monsters will work. Maybe they will be overcapped and render all of these recent sources of -resistances useless :)

GGG should make elemental curses and curses suck less in general if they are going to roll out unmitigated elemental reduction.

There was mention of a rework of curses here https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2137408 but hasnt happened yet
Resistances on enemies are joke these days with all the -ele/pene/curse meta stuff.

Physical damage builds are far away from elemental based builds.

These -res/pene mods should be nerfed globally and resistances on enemies should be increased (especially on bosses) or make the bosses resistant to the mods similar with curses.

Who does remember uberdiablo in diablo 2 having 95 all elemental resistances with very limited possibility to reduce it?

There´re also very limited buffs for pure physical damage builds.

-res is stronger just because it works with DoTs, minions and everything in general.
