Pause in SSF mode

Since I know there are some complications with implementing a pause function into the flow of the regular game (but of course only available when not in a party and with no other players in an instance), I was wondering if it is possible to get a pause mechanic while playing in solo self-found mode.

As a more casual player without tons of uninterrupted time to put into a game, having this feature would be an absolute God-send, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

(And I imagine I'm not the only one who has thought to make this suggestion so I apologize if there was another, similar thread recently - I had found one from 2015, before SSF was added)

EDIT: To clarify, I'm only suggesting it be added to SSF because you're forced to play solo anyways, meaning you wouldn't have to check for other players in your party or instance and handle cases where people try to join.

ssf is supposed to make the game harder, not enable you to pause in boss fights or before encounters you want to analyse before you engage.

it would totally take the suspension out off the game
offline
But we are living in RL and if telephon or the door bell rings I want to pause the game as soon as possible (I'm handicapped, so I need some time to go to the door).

So I think this is a very useful suggestion!
Yeah. Boss fight starts and my bladder decides to sing an alarm.

Could use pause.

Just logout? It's instant anyway.
Another suggestion: Why not just release a single player mode in which you can pause? (like in D2) It doesn't eat up server capacities and the files themselves are for the most part already there so it shouldn't be to hard to make it happen.(I'm not a gaming engineer though)

Make a portal, and tp out. Takes like no time whatsoever.

no, the client only as the resource files which are displayed, the directX code to display them and some network code to decrypt the server stream.

all combat logic, damage calculations, level building, item registers, char stats and so on are on the servers elsewhere.

doing an offline mode equals handing players all this logic on a silver platter where they could search for weaknesses in the code to attack/exploit the online version. the linux server binary is the holy grail of ggg.

Not really. A toggle at the server side would work fine. No need to promote additional code to the client side.

Not that I agree with the OP in any way.

SSF is already a self-imposed rule to make the game harder (there aren't any achievements or challenges specific to it, right?). You can just not pause the game to analyze boss fights/encounters if you don't want to take the challenge away from yourself.

In any case, I'd think the QoL benefits of allowing to pause the game at a moment's notice outweigh the "negatives" of making the game easier for people (who clearly don't care if the game is easier for them and doesn't affect anyone else).

This.

That's fine and dandy but I wouldn't mind not having to rush whatever I'm doing so that I don't get caught by the instance reset. Not to mention, sometimes things come up that require immediate attention and I don't have the actions of [ open inventory -> find and right-click portal scroll -> click on portal ] committed to instantaneous muscle memory.

I fully acknowledge this QoL change is targeted more toward casual players, but it sure does feel weird not being able to pause the game when I need to do something with a single button press, especially coming from any other ARPG. I've played many Diablo clones and I've never not had a pause feature available so it seems like an reasonable request.
