A newbies first look into Poe

I just started playing Poe today. I have to say that it could use some improvements. Inventory for one is a joke. Even if I only picking up the good stuff ive spent more time going back to town to sell than I have enjoying the game. I checked out the microtransations and they are also a joke. I wont be spending a dime on this game. I did try out a pet with the coins which I got from buying the game. I didnt know it was free[xbox]. The pets are useless. Also I noticed theres no currency. And when you sell you dont get much from the sales. Other than the th things I mentioned. I like the game. It Just needs to jump into 2018 style. Maybe a path of exiles 2 is in order?

- poe is free, if you paid, you got scammed. but atleast whoever you bought it from gave you free tggg coins. or maybe you bought a supporter pack before even freely downloading the game? You need to be more careful with your money. Reading is an important skill that seems to be lost.
- there is no currency, that's the whole point. this aint an mmo. we don't want to be trapped in bronze/silver/gold/platinum uselessness. we have something similar, Orbs/stones. like Chaos, exalts, jewelers, fusing, and ofcourse valuable items. This allows people to play "stock market". No set values.
- there are secret recipes that can help you get a bit more from sales, like 2 chaos orbs or full chroma orbs or 6x jewelers (and countless more). This is also covered partially in the ingame encyclopedia IIRC.
- poe aint pay to win. pets and all MTX will do nothing, otherwise you get an advantage. Visuals/bragging only. Some might claim stash tabs are p2w, but by the time you've enjoyed the game enough to fill all 4 tabs (face it, with crap. you're a beginner, everything looks "good" even when it's not) with actual decent stuff, you've probably spent enough time and had enough fun to justify $15+. If not, or you can't spend $$$, time to re-organize, vendor, trade or make mules.

what is "2018 style"?
rawr. fear me.

OP has helpful ideas for improving POE.

"Useless loot spam" is a bit out of hand for POE, compared to at least some other games. It's also probably true that many, many newer players probably have a lot of difficulty figuring out where to draw the line on loot handling vs monster killing. The loot spam issue and the angst / boredom it engenders almost certainly drives a percentage of players out the door shortly after they arrive.

A pet that you could load up to sell things in town for you or that would at least pick up currency and one or two pre-selected items (ie: items a player might like to chance or craft) would provide a nice break for players' wrists.

Edit & PS: Perhaps "2018 style" means, at least in part, less visual clutter in the form of useless items showing up on screen and less time spent on "frictional" (ie: non-fun) activities like routine inventory management.
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?

What are you considering the 'good stuff'?
What were you hoping to find in the microtransations?
What were you expecting the pet to do?
A currency, that has no other use than as a currency, requires sink(s). If those sinks are not enough the currency is useless and no one wants it. If those sinks are too much, the currency only gets used for the sink and no one trades it. As others have mentioned, PoE has orbs/items that act as currency. The orbs all have uses, which provide their individual sinks.
What were you expecting to get from selling a couple items?
I would enjoy your definition of '2018 style'.

Well said completely agree
I can see where the OP is coming from. I first played the game 4 years ago, came back for a while 6 months ago. This whole game, it seems to me, is geared as a Wall Street simulator, amass pixel wealth, zoom around like a mad-man, trade, trade , trade.

Trading is massively different from 4 years ago, much easier, but is this what I want to do in a game for fun? Or find decent stuff on my own. I haven't had any bad experiences trading, but I'd sure as hell rather find decent stuff and play the game rather than sifting through so much utterly worthless junk.

Bought Grim Dawn on a Steam sale, not for everyone, but the pacing isn't zoom-zoom, you can build complex characters on self-found with the same complexity that POE brags about. Much more enjoyable, to me, than POE's present iteration. Watching
streamers (for only a minute or two, that's all I can stand), makes me wonder where's the fun in going a 1,000 kilometers a second and picking up hardly anything.

Anyway it's summertime, I live in the mountains and I'll spend my summer doing light climbing rather than wasting my short lifetime on amassing pixel wealth. To each their own, do what you enjoy.

Several observations here:

1. Useless loot spam: the OP should check out the many useful loot filters players have created like Neversink's Loot Filter. He has several that will only show loot at certain levels of quality and the rest will stay hidden. Unfortunately, we have to press {Alt}left-mouse-button to pick up an item and then everything that was hidden becomes visible, which means sometimes an item label moves to a new location to fit everything in without getting overlapping text.

2. Pets are useless: There are no "mule" pets in PoE. In order to maintain the "no pay to win" in PoE (excluding premium stash tabs) nothing purchased should make it easier to win in PoE. So pets are just the same as any other cosmetics, just so much bling. Pets can be seen as status symbols (like my Kiwi pet since they were only available during closed beta) but will never be for anything else.

3. Loot spam: Chris has been very clear from the early days of PoE that the inventory was deliberately designed to be of limited space so that we players will need to make decisions on which items to haul back and vendor and which items to ignore. Being able to vacuum up everything isn't very impactful, that would mean we would all try to max out IIQ (increased item quantity) on every build. Making decisions, do I take the time to pick up rares and go back to town and vendor them or do I skip and finish the map sooner, are just another normal decision making part of playing PoE.

4. No gold: One of the unique features of PoE is that there is no gold or silver currency. Everything is traded with orbs that have a specific defined function and a secondary intrinsic game economic value based on the player valued worth of it (the rarer the orb is the more it's economic value is). This "no gold" currency concept GGG had from the beginning is imho pure genius (most of the time) and having in-game buying/selling from a commodity exchange perspective works out pretty well (except when bots flood the market with certain items like Chaos orbs and cause their value to plummet... at least the recent round of account bans has halted that for a little while). If you want gold to buy items with then you're playing the wrong arpg. GGG will never change this and I don't ever want them to change it.
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.
