Isnt DMG Stacking kind of ruining the game?
Every single boss and endgame challenge has all of its difficulty removed by dmg.
There are so many videos now where people are killing shaper/uber elder with like 2k hp builds They are one shotting the boss phases. The items from uber atziri/elders are still worth alot because the challenge is just getting to the bosses now. The challenge of actually killing those bosses is completely gone. Most people now can kill every boss in the game with no problem and not that much investment.... the problem now is that they either dont have access to the bosses because of the required "keys" or influence on their atlas. I love how hardcore deals with this issue through perma death punishments, but because of the desync and problems with servers dying to server issues is really triggering. Back to the main issue at hand... I think that something needs to be changed for end game bosses to create some actual mechanics that cant just be sharted on by stacking those E peen dps tool tips. I dont agree with the current meta that its "hard" to get to bosses vs "easy" to actually kill them. It should be the complete opposite... bosses should be hard to kill and accessible easily. Just my 2 cents. --------------------- Also going to include the probable rebuttal - " Why do you care if those people can do "X" content easily, it doesnt affect your game " Is the same as saying why do you care if other people make alot of money, it doesnt affect your life. Even though it does. We are all in the same economy and same server. If they were on SSF servers it wouldnt affect us at all, but they arent. Not only does their ability to easily take down the end game bosses and get end game rewards affect the economy but it also ruins the fun of the game. You're accomplishment of "killing shaper" or uber elder is not really an accomplishment when you know some random guy who just started to play the game is doing a trap build with 2k hp thats killed him like 50 times already. Why struggle to kill "X" boss when you can make "X" build that can easily kill all bosses It ruins the game IMO Last edited by Bloomania#2606 on Jul 10, 2018, 8:09:07 PM Last bumped on Jul 13, 2018, 12:23:44 AM

Why do you have to make me feel so bad?
Started playing this game 5 years ago, thousands of hours played and I've never defeated Shaper, Elder, Uber Atziri, or even Minotaur or Hydra guardians. |

" See and thats because you arent playing "X" build right? You choose to play builds that you enjoy/like/want But all of that difficulty is removed if you simply play one of the number of builds that can dmg stack and wipe the floor with every endgame boss. |

Different people enjoy different things. So the premise of your thread title is a little flawed... more precisely is damage stacking ruining rhe game for you? For most players? For prospective new players? It may help to specify. Naturally at a minimum we can consider you believe the game has been ruined, for you.
As to whether it is ruining the game formost people - people seem to like it. Chris has said so. The developers seem to tend to look at what people like and work to increase that. PoE 1.0 and 3.3 are completely different games. Enough people liked the idea of one shotting boss phrases with 2k hp, to use your example, that 3.3 is a result of player feedback, not in spite of it. Your entire argument is based on extremes.
It is true, but it is not the RULE. There is no question that high DPS trivializes a LOT of content in this game. Why do you think they have tried to band-aid it with immunity phases and stupid crap like that. Damage output is a runaway and I am not entirely sure what can be done to "fix" it at this point. There are several posts in the last week all complaining about basically the same thing - game is too easy overall, except for tiny bits and pieces. It has always kind of been like that, and I've posted "the game is easy until it is not" on several occasions. Last edited by Slaanesh69#4492 on Jul 10, 2018, 11:36:03 PM

" Okay so there are plenty of things that can be done to deal with the high dmg output that certain builds stack. Heres a few examples. Phylacteral Link - Makes it so you can only do dmg to the selected target Reflect - Made it a punishment to stack pure dps with no defense or mitigation to reflect Stun/Freeze - Punishes players with no solution to stun or if they dont run a freeze immune flask Bleeding Damage - Makes you take dmg and even more while running Envy Essence - Summons a hand that grabs your player and teleports it to a specific location Uber izaro - Has a green aura where if you stand in it, it will teleport you onto a trap set. This list goes on and on and none of it has to do with stacking life on bosses. The point is they didnt, if anything the immune phases/phases in general allow for mine/trap/totem builds to "setup" the dmg to one shot the boss. It also doesnt take a ridiculous investment to achieve that type of damage. Last edited by Bloomania#2606 on Jul 11, 2018, 12:20:23 AM

" Phylacteral link blows. It's akin to forcing phases on blue packs. Phases don't do shit to control damage, they just piss players off with extra waiting time; even those who don't have instakill-levels of dps. " Reflect is dead and buried. Plus there are ascendancies for both ele/phys reflect immunity, so bringing them back would only make Elementalist, Gladiator (I think?) and Scion automatic meta. " These are not ways to control high damage output; on the contrary, high damage output completely nullifies these. |

" Plus there are some cases where P Link doesn't even matter because you're hitting all the enemies at the same time anyway. Like the 3 Crystal Ore bosses that have it. I've got a Sunder Jugg who doesn't care about their P Link so long as they're stacked since the skill gets a hit on each one and then the secondary shockwaves go off and cause damage as well. Or there's Kinetic Blast to really shoot them down. " Slayer, not Gladiator. And reflect is mostly dead but there are plenty of ways around the few monsters where it actually matters. " Very much so, yes. The paradox of having lower damage but "higher survivability" is if you kill the monster faster it has much less opportunity to deal damage and thus you have better survival since you take less damage overall. Quick example for everyone: If we assume a typical support is 40% more damage then a fight that takes 14 seconds without it becomes 14 / 1.4 = 10 seconds long. 10 is 71.42% of 14, so 100-71.42 = 28.58%ish less damage Taken if it was sustained damage. In practice of course the fights don't have sustained damage so you have to look at when the bursts come in. Atziri is a great example where killing her or forcing phase transition before her flameblast goes off basically nullifies her damage dealt thus going over that threshold where you kill her before she gets it off means you take effectively 100% less damage. |

I still remember the early days of PoE when kripp was king and those who were part of the inner circle roamed around with the BiS CoC discharge builds while the rest had very minor damage dealing builds, the game was slow.
Take a look at the the knowledge of PoE's player base today with guys like Ziz pushing HC builds and Mathil making DPS machines on SC. These days when a player makes an overpowered build half the community knowns about it. There have been way too many builds that have remained in the meta for far too long and even when GGG do a baby nerf to the skill it still doesn't change the meta, it's only after they nerf the skill right into the ground that the meta changes. Many people watch PoE on twitch now and if they were to see a slow paced boring game why would they come play it, why would they spend money on it and why would they want to invest into it. Those that helped grow the game are fading out with everyone who wants a fast pace game. I play for the 36 challenges then generally do something else PoE for me is generally a month's gameplay. |
