Why is poe.ninja a trusted site for currency prices?

I am asking this because I am wondering if people that own the site can manipulate the game economy.
My question is what makes this site trustworthy and why? This game has a "free market" trade system and I am starting to wonder who is controlling these sites because ex to chao crashed hard 170c an ex to 130c an ex thankfully I bought a doctor card with my reserved ex so I am mostly unaffected by this however each doctor card could be worth more ex now due to the lower chaos cost to ex. It's still 160c in Standard, so it's safe to assume Incursion will go back up
