[Skill Interaction] Arcane Surge does not trigger while linked to CWDT (Manual Cast)
|
Bug Reference: 2,131,275,019
Manually casting a spell that is linked to both CWDT and arcane surge prevents arcane surge from counting the mana used. Note that in this case the spell is manually cast, because it is above the max level for CWDT. Doing a quick google search, I did find a previous topic on this, but it seems to have been poorly explained, so I'll add a bit more info. My links are as follows: - CWDT lvl 3 (supports gems up to level 42) - Immortal Call - Flame Dash lvl 11 (req lvl 45) - Arcane Surge lvl 3 My CWDT gem should only support spells that have a required level below 42. This is not the case for Flame Dash, so it CAN be manually cast. No matter how many times I cast Flame Dash with this setup, arcane surge does not take effect. The mana cost is 18, while arcane surge requires 17 mana to be spent, so it should trigger every time. If I then unsocket CWDT and repeat this process, arcane surge works as intended. You have to change your links so you have 2 * 2 Link, then it will work.

True, that's a good workaround but it still seems like a bug.

yeah but i think that even though then level on your gem is to high for CWDT, it still "locks" the skill because it's linked to it.

No it is not a bug, you just do not understand the mechanics of links. Make it 2+2 problem solved

" Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I don't think dismissing it out of hand is the solution. Cast when damage taken: "Can only support SKILL gems requiring level 42 or lower" By that logic it can't support Flame Dash because that requires level 45, and it can't support Arcane Surge because it's not a skill gem. Arcane surge: "Gain arcane surge after spending a total of 17 mana with supported skills" Flame dash costs 18 mana. This is correctly taken from the mana total, and therefore counts as mana spent with a supported skill. More than 17 mana has been spent on a supported skill, so arcane surge should trigger as intended. Tell me what I'm misunderstanding here. Having to spend hundreds of chromatics to get not only the right colours, but have them in specific sockets so that you can unlink them shouldn't be necessary to get around what appears to be an actual bug. From an implementation perspective, I can guess at the following: 1. CWDT still "supports" skills that are overleveled, as indicated by the highlight in game. 2. There is some process that checks if a gem is within the level range before allowing it to cast automatically and preventing it from casting manually. 3. Somewhere in the implementation of arcane surge, it excludes gems that are linked to trigger supports, in order to prevent it being triggered for free. 4. The logic that dictates point 2 is not reflected in point 3. This means that the spell can be cast, but it is still bypassed by an internal check inside the arcane surge gem logic. Obviously I may not be correct in this, but it seems like an oversight of a specific condition that is not checked for. |

" Your Arcane Surge supports Immortal Call so that's why it doesn't get its effect, becouse you don't use mana after CWDT triggers. Btw if support gem is linked to a skill it is a part of a skill that's why CWDT kinnda supports it too. |

Have you posted a proper bug report for this OP? I think the above replies are misinformed or misunderstanding — this definitely seems like a bug.
Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

Yeah definitely seems like a bug worth reporting. Good spotting OP!!
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

" This thread was originally in Bug Reports. I think the Support staff who move threads also took the bug report at face value since it sounds so similar to other peoples' complaints that are not bugs. I agree that the interaction sounds bugged and the thread move should be reversed. Need game info? Check out the Wiki at: https://www.poewiki.net/
