Why Are There So Many More Blue/Green Gems Than Red Ones?

Can't tell if it's a logical reason for the game or just random how they created the gems.

Pretty big differences between Red vs Blue

It's harder to make melee look special. Special sells MTX. Selling MTX keeps the servers running.

I guess traps and mines aren't that special and they are blue/green :S

traps 1 mtx
mines 0

Because GGG hates melee.

Next question?
I agree that melee looks bad except maybe righterous fire if we can call it melee
I feel pretty, Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty, and witty and gay,
And I pity Any girl who isn’t me today!
Because 1k hp kaoms heart. Omegalul.
Still sane exile?

The colour is chosen depending on what the highest attribute requirement is.
So if the gem needs int and dex and int has the highest value the gem will be blue.

As for the total numbers there are less sub sections to red than the other 2

red - mainly melee active/support gems

blue - mainly spells active/support gems - further split into chaos, element type and summoning

green - mainly ranged attack/spells/support gems, some melee active/support gems, some traps active/support gems.

As for the skills they make, it depends on what GGG want to add, and what ideas they have.
Vulnerability got changed to a red gem.

+1 Red, -1 blue.

Not quite actually...

3.1.0... "Vulnerability has been split into two skill gems - Vulnerability and Despair."

With despair being Blue... so... +1 Red, -0 Blue (as despair is Blue)...if i understand that right.

But yeah, I feel STR based should get a few more.

Anyway... thanks for the answers
the same thing apply to passive tree: check lower left corner and upper right corner. first one is a pointless maze of travel nodes and passives noone cares about. the second - trove of stuff everyone wants

any passive tree heatmap shows that bottom left side of the tree is used only to escape it as quickly as possible because it has nothing

designers simply have no idea how to make melee appealing (except making it ranged and flashy ofc) and because defences in this game are simply worthless (they work, ofc they do, but offscreening and 1m+ dps is just better..
