[Unofficial] Colourblind Mode

Hello Exiles!

This is a small guide for Color Correction via Daltonization, for either protanopia, Deuteranopia or Tritanopia in Path of Exile.

Please note that while ReShade offers a LOT of other post-processing tools, i will only focus on Daltonization. The purpose of this is to help others with Impaired vision, not to make the game prettier in any way.

About me
I am 25 years old and colourblind, more specifically i have severe Deuteranopia (Red-Green CVD). I have played POE since closed beta and for the most part i have been doing fine without a colourblind mode, yet there are certain parts of the game that leave me completely disoriented. Things such as monsters in act 2, some fire-based spells and certain ground effects are invisible to me and has caused me a lot of pain in HC over the years

I recently found out that the open-source project Reshade.me is now featuring daltonization and wanted to make a small installation guide to help my fellow colourblind exiles.
What is Daltonization?
I don't think i can explain it better than professionals, so i will just qoute them:

"
Daltonization is a process performed by the computer that allows people with color vision deficiencies to distinguish a range of detail they are otherwise excluded from perceiving. Simply put – the idea of Daltonization is that different colours that look identical to a person with colour vision deficiency are shifted in “opposite” directions so that they can distinguish them. In reality it’s supposed to help us distinguish the colours we can’t see using the colours we still can.

Installation
1. Download the latest software from https://reshade.me/
2. Locate the ReShade setup file and launch it. A box will appear.
3. Press "Select Game", You will have to locate your Path of Exile exe file (Most likeplaced in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile).
Note! It is important that you chose the correct file and Direct3d device. Most will use Dx10 and PathofExile_x64.exe.
4. In the bottom of the box, select rendering device. This will be either Dx9 or Dx10+.
5. Press "Yes" to downloading standard assets from github.
6. A list will appear. Select only Daltonize.fx and press "Continue".
7. Close the window and start Path of Exile.
8. Press "Shift + F2" and a small ingame overlay should appear. Press "+" in the top part of the overlay and type in a name. I called mine Daltonize.
9. Press the checkbox next to "Daltonize [Daltonize.fx]".
10. From the Menu that appeared, select your form of colourblindness (Protan, Deutan or Tritan).
11. Now press "Settings" in the top of the overlay and change "Usage Mode" to "Performance".

All done. Enjoy!
FAQ
"
Will ReShade with Daltonization impact my performance in game?

Yes, but through my personal testing it didn't decrease my framerate by more than 1 in any scenario. My computer is quite beastly and i run the game at 5K resolution, so you should test it on your own setup.

Does using ReShade with the purpose of Daltonization go against GGG´s ToS/ToU?
No. I emailed support to get a clear picture of this. The respond looked like this:

"
Hey there,

Thank you for getting in touch with us and checking this with us.

As per Bex's post here, ReshadeFX should be perfectly fine to use. :)
If there is anything else we may be able to help you with in the future, please do not hesitate to get back to us.

Kind regards,
CJ

All the best, Priory

If GGG reads this, can you please pm me or respond to this thread on the legality of using Post-processing to correct colour in game? I just want to be on the safe side.

You should absolutely contact support@grindinggear.com directly about this as soon as possible. This is one of the cases where you definitely want to ask for permission, not for forgiveness. I remember people have gotten in trouble for using Reshade previously. I cannot say whether GGG will consider your motives sufficient to warrant an exception.

Note that posting about breaking the ToU could well be seen by GGG as just as bad as actually breaking them. So you were very wise to not post the guide without running it by GGG first!
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Yeah. I actually did post the guide for a few hours before i realized that this might be a problem. It is however all cleared with GGG now and is safe to use for this purpose!

Glad to hear GGG approved this!

(From the reply it also seems to be a blanked approval to all uses of Reshade, which would be neat.)

Your thread is now at the bottom of the Consolidated Guides sticky, so even if this thread gets buried and you forget to bookmark it, you'll still be able to find it :)

I just tried the 4.0.2 version of ReShade on PoE and can't get the ingame overlay to appear when I press shift+f2. Has anyone got the newest version of ReShade to work on PoE?
