Having the same problem.
The game and the login page doesn't start up. The rendering errors happen immediately after startup. Tried the following possible solutions (unsuccessfully): 1) Switched between DX9 and DX11 and back. Errors still happening. 2) (STEAM) Verify integrity of local game files (No issues found) 3) Ran PackCheck.exe (no errors encountered. All File hashes are in sync.) 4) Reinstalled the game (via Steam) Some of the snippets of errors that are happening: -DeviceD3D9.cpp line 354: Failed to create the device -Reference count for loaded resource FONTMingLu is 1 -Reference count for loaded resource FONTGullim is 1 -Reference count for loaded resource FONTMS UI Gothic is 1 |

DX 11 seems to be a problem for a lot of people. Let's hope it gets sorted soon.
Only way i can play is go through my Nvidia Gforce experience. That way, i get either DX( or DX 11. Still get the 'Cannot create Thread' alot when entering instances, then game crashes |

On a whim I reinstalled my nVidia Drivers and things started to work out better. I wasn't having any luck with with DX9 or DX11.
I got everything working again. However, to get everything stable I had to underclock my GPU. Using MSI Afterburner or any other over/underclocking tools, you may want to try underclocking (Memory and GPU speed) by 1% increments until it's stable. I'm currently running 7% less than normal and most of my nVidia problems have gone away. I was getting zoning issues, loading issues when people had purchased MTXs and zoned into town, issues on startup. Undeclocking seemed to help the most. As a warning, if you're not comfortable with over/underclocking your GPU or not knowledgeable, you could damage your hardware. So please be cautious and read/view youtube videos to help before you try anything. Nvidia 880M (397.31 2018.04.25) Win 10 64-bit Settings: everything high, multithreading on, Vsync ON. VSYNC was what finally really helped for me. I never go over 60 or 75Hz on my monitors, but everything's running smoothly now. Good luck! Last edited by TheBastage#0171 on Apr 30, 2018, 2:53:59 PM

I've been getting this crash every single day, I'm having to reinstall stuff everyday just to play. This really needs fixing and addressing by GGG, my friend I play with is also getting the same thing so this is happening to more people than not.

some comment:
if you want to switch between the dx9 and dx11 client, it's not enough to just start the respective exe file. that is because the started exe looks up the ingame configuration settings (dx9 or dx11) from the configfile and starts the other exe if the setting says it. to switch to another directx version you have to start the game and choose a different directx version in the settings. if that's not possible and you want to disable the auto switching and definitely switch to a certain exe you have to start the respective exe with the commandline --disable-client-switching see here for more details age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
