Random Disconnects on All Realms (WinMRT Results Inside)

Hey!

Im having my game "freeze" on all realms in EU. My latency jumps to ~700 on the ingame graph for a very short time and the game freezes. After this the latency chart shows normal 30 again. But the game does not unfreeze and returns me to login menu with the message "An unexpected disconnect occured"

I ran WinMRT, results below:

I don't really understand the above but po1.fcr01.sr01.ams01.networklayer.com has some weird loss (4-5%) and big numbers as worst so I assume its the culprit. How can I fix this freezing/disconnect issue? Thanks in advance! <3

I'm having the exact same issue, using the same ISP here. It seems the peering between Softlayer and DNA is currently "non functioning" to put it mildly.

So is it a GGG server issue or DNA issue? Should we be calling DNA?

I doubt DNA can do anything about this, it's ultimately GGG's responsibility to fix the issue. (They should contact softlayer.)

So, fun fact: that actually isn't a sign of a problem. That is just a router only responding slowly, and dropping stuff, but still passing through traffic fine. If it was actually having 39 percent packet loss, the next hop would also be at least 39 percent.

The fact the next hop drops back down to 0.4 percent tells us that. Looking back, we see that you encounter 0.4 percent packet loss at pretty much every single step, including your (unnecessarily) redacted router. That says, for you, the problem seems to originate on your home network.

We can also see your worst case latency on that very first host is 66.9ms, which is an incredibly long time for the local network.

If you play on wifi, try using an Ethernet cable and see if problems persist.

Whatever is going on for you, there is no evidence of problems at the network layer in this trace. RTT times are stable, no packet loss. You should take your report to GGG technical support by email, and ask them to investigate further what is going on.

Sure. That very well might be the case.

This isn't the first time I report a problem like this, in fact in every thread there's always that "someone" who is pointing out that there's something wrong on my end (this is over the course of many years playing PoE, mind you.) It is true that my own router isn't as stable as it could be. However the fact remains that there's now three different reports about the same issue from people with the same ISP. Maybe it's one of those odd coincidences?

Also I redacted my personal IP-address from the logs so I don't get DDoS'd. In fact I would say that the instructions for using WinMTR or whatever should instruct other people to do it as well.

I don't know. It is definitely possible there is more than one problem happening, or it could be that people looked at recent threads, saw their ISP mentioned, and stepped in to speak up.

All I can really say is that the first poster had no signs of network problems (eg: they should talk to GGG), and yours shows signs of packet loss starting inside your network and carrying on.

So ... with the information I have, the best I can do is say that in your case I'd definitely start by trying to fix your wifi, and see if problems persist. If they do, then investigate the next problem along the line.

Is that a real thing? I guess that I don't see that sort of issue so much, because I don't interact with people likely to do that sort of thing. Your ISP should be able to rapidly sort out any issue there anyway, by blackholing traffic at the border and giving you a new IP.

Anyway, uh, absent more concrete cases of problems caused by this, a complete and correct WinMTR trace is much more valuable than an edited one, honestly, so I'm not inclined to update the guide. I will keep this feedback in mind, though, and change my position if more people have troubles from that.
Update: I tried connecting through my mobile 4g hotspot instead (same ISP)

WinMRT showed similar results with some packet loss (again 4-8) and worst latency 160+ happening at the same place (po1.fcr01.sr01.ams01.networklayer.com).

All the other hops had no loss and minimal worst latency (same as through my ethernet--> fiber connection).

Any other logs etc. I can add to try to diagnose and fix if there is a chance its on my side? (Im 99% sure it isnt though....)

EDIT: Running a long WinMRT currently. Ethernet connection. The above address which had SOME packet loss sometimes gets no connection at all and loses all packets for 2-3 seconds. I guess when this happens it causes the game to freeze up and DC. And this has happened every 15 minutes of gameplay. I cant play at all anymore as I cant run maps since I keep DCing.
