Complex socket/linked question with "grants" skills
If I have an item that "grants" a skill as an explicit affix, and it happens to be an item that can be corrupted with the implicit "+1 level of socketed gems", does the granted skill count as socketed, and therefore benefit from the corruption property?
For example I have The Surrender unique shield with grants level 30 reckoning, would corrupting the shield with +1 to level of socketed gems effectively grant me level 31 reckoning? Furthermore, does the same occur for granted "unique" skills (IE skills you cannot normally "socket" as no skill gem exists for them)? An example would be a corrupted, +1 to socketed gems Death's Oath granting level 21 Death Aura. Also to clarify about how they're linked... TECHNICALLY any support gem that CAN support the granted skill, that is socketed in that particular item, will support it. Which effectively means you don't need to link the sockets in the item that grants the skill, to have them support said granted skill. BUT What about the gems in the sockets supporting each-other? Do they need to be linked to support each-other? Because TECHNICALLY, they share a common link with the granted skill, right? Think of a 6L body, the last socket isn't connected to the first one by a direct link, it shares a path which is linked to the first socket. So likewise, none of the sockets are linked, BUT the "invisible" granted skill shares a path to each socket. So which parts am I getting wrong, if any at all? Last bumped on Mar 28, 2018, 7:51:35 AM

Skills granted by items don't have any gem associated with them. Increasing the level of socketed gems doesn't affect them for this reason.
Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

+1 to socketed gems only works on socketed gems. Skills granted by items are not socketed, therefore do not gain any benefits.
As for the links, you're way overthinking things. Because the item grants the skills, any socket is considered linked to it. There's no point in linking those items. Supports do not support other supports. They only support the active skill. |

Quick and concise replies as always Viper, thanks.
Any word about how the linking business works? |

Yah, I always do, Nam. Thanks for the input. But enhance is a support gem that can affect other supports, no? Would I have to link the sockets in such an item to enhance the quality of the other gems in the item?

" If you want Enhance to apply to every gem, you would need to link them. Forgot about that one. Enlighten should still work unlinked as it applies to the skill's mana cost, not the supports. |

Alright, thanks for the help guys.

Enhance and Enlighten only affects active skill gems. So they won't work on a skill granted by an item.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Bare in mind that certain skills granted by items can be modified in a way, normal skills often can't be.
Like the DO you mentioned. You can basically put an Arcane Surge in it, to give your DO-Aura the "duration"-tag. Than you can support the aura with Efficacy and the like. Rest was already explained. |
