tips for keeping shaper alive?

being a melee i'm finding it darn right out super hard to keep shaper alive during the elder portal phases, i kill things quickly but he takes like 4 hits at any point and he goes down. I can't hold agro all over the screen unlike a range character can. I've tried jumping back and forth and even taking hits for him but no luck,
Any tips to help out? tired of not being eligible for the amulet cause shaper died. So stupid of a change. Last bumped on Mar 27, 2018, 2:37:24 AM

Use a warchief with area and blind on one side and position yourself on the other (assuming your struggling with the 4 portals) but make sure both you and your totem are between the trash and shaper so you eat some hits and get aggro.
Also if your talking about your dual strike character there put ancestral call in and you can actually just attack the floor between the two portals and the spirits will do the rest. It is pretty bad as a melee without extreme dps i struggled with a T12 elder using cyclone. |

Forget it as melee. Either u do 1m dps, or forget about rewards for shaper phase.

Frostwall + Inc Duration can protect him from the enemy projectiles.
Best solution is AOE and high DPS, though. Also, remember that the squids are the real danger. You don't have to actually kill the portals, all you have to do is kill the squids. |

" Dude, stop. Melee is hella strong, especially for boss fights. Been playing Cyclone and MS pretty much exclusively for a while and since they introduced Elder. Never had a single instance where I let Shpader die. I didn't even know that phase was all about protecting him, I just killed everything and the portals themselves lol. My ele Cyclone does about 600k dps with no flasks or other shenanigans. No problems beating him on T15. My MS does way more deeps (7*160k*3) but I haven't taken him in yet as I'm still leveling. I would say both of those are on the weaker side but totally doable. For Uber, forget it. You need more than that, at least another 30% more for a comfortable fight. It's a DPS check. Nothing more. The phase is dumb and the whole fight outside the first phase is dumb af. Just burst it all down... For Uber Elder you're going to need Uber Atziri level of dps. I would put MS at the top because with clever jiggering and Ancestral Call, you'll generate a whack ton of projectiles. MS also has face melting deeps capable of taking down Elder in the last phase which is absolutely retarded come the Uber fight. You either have the dps to do it or you fail because once the place goes toxic, that's it. You die and you won't be able to even enter and live for more than 2s. Also remember that there is RNG involved. Some runs he'll clobber you. Other runs feel like a cakewalk. Don't assume it can't be done off a single instance (unless he melts you and you literally take 20m on the first phase, then no, it's not lol). Deliver pain exquisite

I had, too, never let shaper die in 3.1, but in Bestiary, shaper has almost zero hp, adds spawn faster, spread faster and focus shaper alot more than before, as a melee, you absolutely need to think outside the box to get the watchers eye, because the adds will delete him before you get to leapslam from one side to the other and then back to cyclone them up... as was suggested before, frostwall, warchief with blind or some pseudomelee skill like frostblades is the best bet tbh, becuase unlike ranged, that can just stand on top of shaper and with random projectile GMP skill aoe the whole screen, melee cant do that |

interesting strat, frost wall. so i just sit near shaper and block him like an icecube for the entire phase. hmm

Unless you're running frost blade AC i don't see how any melee can keep shaper alive.

How much hp do thise adds have? My first elder spawned onto a t11 and as it sounds, this ad phase will either be a breeze or a nightmare with essence drain.

" He spawns them forever, its not too bad with ED especially if its a tricked out one. I did it with my occultist on a T14 with a 4link ED (well 5 i had pierce on to counter the random explosions) just make sure you position yourself to eat some attacks instead of shaper.
