Onslaught and other effects with traps/mines ?
So, I've just read on reddit that the onslaught support gem doesn't work with traps / mines. I also tried it out to make sure that was the case, and it seems to be true. I then figured I can get onslaught by other means (besides using a flask), and I figured I could use "Extractor Mentis" which gives "5% chance to gain Onslaught for 4 seconds on Kill". Turns out, that didn't work either. So the only way I see to gain onslaught as a trap/mine user is to get a flask. In the end though, since the monsters do die when I detonate my mines / traps I feel I need to ask the question: "Who really gets the onslaught on kill from the amulet?". I mean, the monsters die, I don't get the onslaught effect, my mines, which as far as I understand are more or less myself casting the spells (using remote mine support) since all other effects work with them, doesn't get the effect (since they are no longer existing since they blew up in order to kill the monster in the first place. I just find it all quite wierd. Can someone explain the reasoning why I wouldn't get the effect? I mean, I'm the only "thing" left to recive it...

You and your traps are separate entities. When a skill that grants effects to "you" is used by your traps instead, the effect is granted to the now-dead trap.

so, if you have power/frenzy charges on kill, it wont work with traps? (serious question, I never played trap/mine build)

Nope, the only way to generate power / frenzy is by taking the nodes for it in the tree. The power charge one is quite close to where sabotour starts, but the frenzy one is on the south side of the ranger tree, nothing you really wanna walk down to... Also, the power charge one works for both traps and mines, while the frenzy one only works for traps...

You can also get charges in other ways, eg that 'power charge when you spend 200 mana' shaper/occultist mod.
Note that there is a (500 year old) bug that means if your traps kill with DoT damage, the kill gets accredited to you. At this point it's such a long standing bug that you're probably pretty safe to build around it. So you could use ignite, or fire trap, or decay, or vortex etc... and generate onslaught that way. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

ye, read about that DoT thing aswell, however, if it has to be killed by the DoT then it means the inital hit of say fire trap or vortex can't deal the killing blow. That in turn means that the clear sped will be slow, which is why I wanted onslaguht in the first place, to speed it up, not slow it down :P
