Elemental Skills vs. Bosses?

I literally have no idea how people do it. I see people getting 1mil DPS with skills like Ball Lightning and Freezing Pulse. How?! Everytime I've tried to make an elemental build (Inquisitor, Elementalist, etc.) they map fine but struggle so bad against bosses. I remember back in 2.6 I tried making a Storm Call Inquisitor, had a ton of crit, 5L Beast Fur Shawl, and Conductivity/Ass Mark and still had trouble killing Merciless Voll in Dried Lake 5-6 levels over zone. It would just take forever.

I want to try out a full elementalist wander with Piscator's and I'm scared that my clear speed will be great but I'll get completely toasted by bosses. What can I do to prevent this in the future? Why does my DPS against bosses suck so bad regardless of what elemental skill, spell damage, and crit chance/multi I have?

doing kb 99% of the time, - piscators elementalist -- tooltip is 120k (no idea what my pob dps is)

minotaur/phoenix killed in about 2 seconds. switch to barrage for red elder

Some skills are pretty good compared to others. Among the good ones, some are better for fast clear and others for single target damage.

The best elemental character I ever did was a Shadow Lightning Strike. There are a lot of good unique items that gives you a ton of lightning damage. Combine that with all the lightning damage skill points around him in the tree and you've got some nice damage that can clear out anything in the atlas. I haven't done that build in a long time but it would probably work better now with all of the improvements in the Assassin.

They made the Witch a lot more powerful too, maybe because they heard your cries? Just try the Witch with whatever build you want, you should do way more damage than what you were.
