Tectonic Slam fissures mechanics questions
So I can't seem to find anything addressing this. According to the gem, it unleashes a fiery fissure, dealing damage "AND" releasing smaller fissures. Do the smaller fissures deal secondary damage, or just broaden the area affected by the single initial attack? If it's the former, there's no info about that damage anywhere, and I'd want to know if it can hit targets hit by the main fissure or not like Ice Crash. And then could multiple small fissures overlap and affect the same target with sufficient AoE?
If there's no secondary damage source at all, it seems a fairly trivial mechanic, as the area covered by even a few fissures is adequate for clearing yard trash, and Increased AoE Support exists. In that case, I'd rather have a random number of fissures and keep my endurance charges (and might even be happy giving up on the more damage modifier to keep them, for that matter). It's just nice to finally have an area melee attack option with fire conversion other than molten or convoluted phys/cold conversion setups. Anyone have a definitive source for if there's secondary effect damage here? Last edited by Norevo#0561 on Mar 4, 2018, 10:37:25 PM Last bumped on Mar 8, 2018, 4:43:25 AM

it looks like its just making aoe bigger
the EC makes the aoe bigger and more consistent, as well as provides you with more damage multiplier |

Honestly no idea if it has secondary dmg or just widens the area, you are most likely using herald of ash with it, so everything should just die at the same time anyway.

Shameless bump. Does GGG still answer questions in the giant mechanics sticky thread? I might copy this over.

" From my experience, not quite. It seems kinda like ice crash in a way. I think there's a REALLY small delay between the individual fissures, but monsters can only be hit once. So basically it only increases the aoe. I make dumb builds, therefore I am.

I appreciate the attempts, but none of these replies provide an actual answer to the question. I'll post it in the giant mechanics thread and see if anything comes of it.

"we aren't developers so obviously we don't know for sure, 100% But after playing with this skill for almost 90 levels as well as watching others play it for a long time, I'm like 95% sure there is no secondary damage. You feel secondary damage in this game on bosses or, in example of sunder, procs off trash onto other trash or bosses Neither happens with tectonic. It's especially easy to see with RT. It's just a bigger aoe effect and damage multiplier bonus |
