So I'm VERY new to this game and still trying to get the hang of everything but I'm absolutely loving it. My only REALLY big issue with the design is why you you put respawn in town on top of respawn at checkpoint? This may seem like such a minor detail, but going through this game solo, like I am and being new, you die a lot. Especially during boss fights. So being able to spawn right back at the boss gate checkpoint is vital to keep the fight going. But accidentally hitting spawn at camp instead of checkpoint is the WORST because all of your progress for that boss fight is essentially gone. Now this wouldn't be a problem if the two options were separated enough, but theres essentially 2 pixels in between them making it super easy to quickly accidentally select the wrong choice and not be able to go back to the boss fight due to there not being any waypoints and then having all your instances leading up to the boss fight reset and having to find everything again. Seriously kills my session any time this happens.

Well bsically your problem is that you need to know where you are clicking instead of mindlessly spam clicks in the screen. You'll eventually get used to it.

If you are in a party (or leave regular portals down), then respawning in town means you can take a portal back to the action. Respawn at checkpoint means you need to walk right from the start of the area. Unless you die vs a boss, in which case respawn at checkpoint is still ok.

In the past, we only had "respawn in town". "Respawn at checkpoint" was added later for QoL.
And yes, it makes "respawn in town" obsolete in most cases. 3.5 build: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2299519
