Terrible DPS with ice shot / barrage

I wanted to make a build that I have never tried before, saw all the cool cold based damage nodes one tree and supports like ice bite and decided to make an ice shot raider (checked HCA ladder for players and looked at thier gear/trees and copied as much as I could), but really the single target DPS is laughably bad. My warchief build that I started this league on in SSFHC did more damage on a 4L then this is doing with 5L traded for gear. The leveling process was also horrid because of slow single target for bosses, I think it took me about 5 minutes to kill sun and moon.

If anyone could look at my gear/links/tree and tell me why it's bad I'd really appreciate it. I looked at old guides people on the ladder using the build or similar and I just cant figure it out. maybe it has to do with my crit? I can't think of anything else nor would I imagine getting even twice as much crit and multi would even salvage the sad dps this is doing.

There are still rooms for improvement, I played this build on Harbinger league so I got a few ideas about it.

1) Get critical strike multiplier on amulet, that's basically the only slot for crit multi (except jewels)

2) Get rid of the Writhing Jar flask, you don't need it. Instead, get Wise Oak and make sure you have the highest cold resistance so it gives 12%-15% cold penetration.

3) Take instant heal on life flask with bleed immune. So you won't die.

4) Take Point Blank. Lion Eye's bow has Far Shot mod, so it's okay to have point blank (it kinda balanced out) to deal 50% more damage at close range to bosses.

5) Get at least 12% attack speed on gloves, or flat phys.

6) Farm for 6-linked, I used Hypothermia for 6th link, it deals more damage to chilled enemy. Or try out Mirage Archer, it helps clearing very well. (Ice shot)

7) For Barrage single target, replace Faster Attack with Slower Projectile, take out Ice bite for Elemental Focus, take out added cold for cold penetration, for 6th link i'm not sure what's best.

8) Get +1 maximum frenzy charge corrupted Darkray Vectors for 1 more frenzy charge.

9) About Ascendancy, don't go for Rapid Assault, switch to Quartz Infusion and Avatar of the Veil, they may give you less damage (or not?) but you'll survive much better.

10) Use Blessing orb on your rings to max out the implicit mods (so more resistance on the same ring).

11) You can have up to 22% elemental with attacks mod on your belt, just scour and re-craft till you have it.

12) For later levels, get all the jewel sockets that cost 3 points, the one above Arcobatic and Blood Drinker.

13) Get Dying Sun flask, it is expensive but probably the best end game flask for any archer.

That's all I can think of, hope it helps.

You seem to be playing some sort of hybrid of flat elemental damage and physical conversion. It doesn't really work like this, either you go physical conversion or flat elemental.

Your barrage is only converting 40% to cold damage, I guess you'd need to use something like Hrimsorrow to convert at least 90% because other (much better) conversion methods like Phys to Lightning or the Signal fire won't convert to cold. But then again you're using Hrimsorrow instead of using something like Tombfist. Seriously do yourself a favour and buy Tombfist, even 1 socket version with murderous eye jewel would be much better. (costs like 1 chaos)

You're using a support gem that generates you frenzy charges but you're playing a Raider that's already generating frenzy charges by deault so I'm not sure what's up with that.

In addition your items aren't very good, not sure why you're using this armour. It's just bad don't use it. If you can't afford a random rare 6 socket armour you can buy 5 socket Ashrend. Remove Devoto as well and buy Lightpoacher for like 1 alch. And get more Abyss jewels in general, they're really op.

@banana, Thanks for that list I thought of a few but a lot of things that I didn't. It will be nice to be able to come back and look at that when im looking for an upgrade. About the writhing jar i'll replace that after I get uber lab open and fix my ascendancy. I'll play around with point blank as well, it will be really easy to spec in/out of it regardless.

About barrage, I only have 40% cold conversion so im not sure picking up ele focus and cold pen is going to be that good at least at first glance. I was thinking possibly phys to lightning?

@Jessica, I don't take any physical damage nodes on the tree except for king the the hill cluster but that's just for the crit, unless you mean my gear is what makes my build hybrid. It is pretty bad, starting from scratch in SC with this character so no currency base but I got an OK map pool built up that I bought hopefully I get some good drops soon.
