This is my first time playing spectre. I always wanted to play minions but hated the idea of having to resummon all the time so I was delighted to hear about persistent Spectres. However, now I'm a level 95 playing end game and getting a bit frustrated with the whole process of having to summon the spectres I need from the storyline areas and then beg for a t17 shaper zone for a high level re-summon.
I propose that the level of corpses created by Desecrate ignores the area level restrictions and the subsequent level of spectres raised from this are based on the lowest of either:
a) level restrictions of Desecrate gem
b) level restrictions of Raise Spectre gem
c) player level
The maximum level of corpses created by a lvl 20 Desecrate would obviously have to be lowered from 100 to be in line with the highest tier area available; currently being 84 (possibly give a lvl 21 gem ability to make level 85 corpses?).
I think this system would greatly improve the end game for summoners whilst also preserving the leveling experience.
I'd love to hear (constructive) criticisms of this idea though, as I'm sure better brains than mine have already wrestled with this issue.

I play summoners atleast once most leagues and the recent changes have made life SO MUCH better.
What I am curious about is you having to replace specters at all. I got mine from shaper's realm and literally nothing since then has been able to come remotely close to killing them (using tukohama's vanguards and wicker man). This includes guardians, red elder, shaper etc. And they are still on a 5L.
If you find your ilvl 84 specters are dying in lower level maps, that would be surprising. What you're proposing as a fix, sure, i get the QoL but really.. specters are INCREDIBLY tanky and the only time they could die is with shaper/uber A (where you can resummon immediately because the zone level is appropriate).

There might be a misconception regarding spectres.
Their lvl is fexible to put it that way.
Even if you were able to summon lvl100 spectres, they would be "downgraded" to the lvl of content you are doing at that specific moment.
Means: If you were to clear a lvl70 zone with lvl100 spectres, then they would treated as lvl70 spectres. They wont deal the damage a lvl100 spectre would deal, nor would they enjoy the lvl100 lifepool or anything else in that lvl70 zone.
Thats is why you dont need T17 spectres unless you want to farm Shaper.
But if you want to do that, you´d need access to Shaper´s Realm anyways and could summon just right there.
Although that would be pretty neat QoL improvement for summoners, I dont think its worth investing dev-time here.
Anyways: Best of luck for your suggestion

Alright... i admit it.. i went into an ele reflect map in a party xD
But there's been other times when a low level boss (kitava t10) randomly took out two of my four spectres. Yes they are tanky and I have invested in minion life nodes too. But they still randomly die. And it's annoying because you know what has to be done to replace them.
I don't even bother doing Leo with this character because it's not worth the hassle of re-summoning... just another small annoyance.

This is not true as of patch 3.0.2

Spectres no longer have their level reduced to the level of the area they are in. Instead, the level of a Spectre is now based on the lowest of either the level of the monster they were raised from, or the maximum level allowed by the skill gem used. This is now indicated on the skill gem.

Just to clarify the misconception. It def used to be. But now if you get ilvl 84 specters, you should be destroying lower level content as they actually stay ilvl 84.

Ele reflect is easy if you use tukohama's vanguards (since the totem is SR and doesnt 'hit'). With solar guards, yea those are rough. At this point there is exactly 1 mod i reroll and that is 'no life/mana regen' and that's really because I cba to carry a hybrid flask with me. Otherwise every other mod is fine. Zombies may die, AG you have to keep an eye on now and then, but with enough leech and regen on the new abyss jewels, your specters should be insane!
As long as you don't mind the slower clearspeed, 3 x tukohama + 1 wicker man has been really safe for me (and is def the best bossing set i've liked so far!)

Yeah it was two solar guards and a flame sentinel that bit it... one TukoVan survived xD Reflect is not a problem solo, even with the spectre setup I mentioned. Zombies are also not an issue. It's just particular bosses, particularly in a group, that can cause random spectre rips (Abyss Lich comes to mind).
