the Hungry Loop ring

How does this work? I know that level 20, the ring consumes the skill gem and takes on some quality of it and it can hold 4.

so can I have it consume AW + Inc duration + phys damage + culling strike and then the ring will act just like four socketed gloves?
Will it take on all the level 20 qualities of the gem?
Do consumed gems require mana?
Can you use it for auras? CWDT?
Can the ring be emptied and do you get the gems back at level 20?

None of this was in the wiki.

Thanks.

The answer to every one of those questions is indeed in the wiki.

Not really. If the ring has consumed 4 support gems (as shown in the wiki), what skill are they supporting? The wiki implies that 4 consumed support gems will support all active skills located on weapons, gloves, chest or helms. That seems unlikely to me. Hence my request for clarification.

The wiki says nothing about mana nor anything about removing gems and those effects.

I'd rather know what to expect before I start adding gems to my ring.

The Hungry Loop consumes socketed support gems when they reach maximum level. Simply socketing a gem that already has the maximum level is not enough, the gem needs to be socketed in the ring before actually leveling the gem (by clicking the "+") to its maximum level for the ring consume the gem. Consequently all consumed gems can only result in a modifier of their natural maximum level; the +1 gem level effect from corruption can not be achieved since the Vaal Orb needs to be used after the gem hit its maximum level.[1]
When a support gem is consumed, the Hungry Loop gains a modifier that supports socketed skill gems with the maximum level of the consumed support. Gem quality is ignored. The Hungry Loop can consume up to four different support gems.

EDit: I did see where vendoring the ring returns ones gems.

The skill in the ring.

Ah. so you load the ring with a skill and then the four support gems. Ok That make sense. It is simple, but not stated. So it provides a 5 socket link ring that is capped at level 20.

Can the base skill placed in the ring be changed before or after any support gems are added? Could I use it for AP for a while and then replace that with AW before I load supports?

Thank you very much.

Wrong order - it only has one socket, afterall. :)

Sure. Other than it’s unique explicit property, it’ll function as a normal unset ring.

Other way around.

Load with support A at lvl 19. Level it to 20. It gets consumed.
Load with support B at lvl 19. Level it to 20. It gets consumed.
Load with support C at lvl 19. Level it to 20. It gets consumed.
Load with support D at lvl 19. Level it to 20. It gets consumed.

Now put Active Skill A into the ring and it will be supported by supports A,B,C and D.

You can switch active skill A to B and it'll still be supported by supports A,B,C and D.

Eh, not really.

Clearer, more descriptive posts are never beaten.

If someone gets there before you and your post is shorter than theirs, different story. :P

Both were helpful to me. You should add them to the Wiki.

Neither is large enough for copyright concerns to apply, so there is no reason you cannot do that yourself. :)
