Shimmeron + Cast when Damage Taken Interaction Doesn't Make Sense
Came here to vent after a build I spent a long time theory-crafting and leveling came up bust.
The plan was to run double Shimmerons and a lot of energy shield regeneration via Zealot's Oath and Fragile Bloom jewels. By criting with a CoH Assassin's Mark Spell, I could then trigger loads of CwDT spells using Shimmeron's self-damage. As long as one of the triggered spells crit, the self-damage would continue to trigger spells indefinitely. This sounded really fun and potentially pretty strong combined with Elemental Equilibrium. Just one problem. Shimmeron's self-damage does not trigger CwDT... This is despite it using the same language as Heartbound Loop which does trigger CwDT! Shimmeron: "400 Lightning Damage taken per second per Power Charge if you've dealt a Critical Strike Recently" Heartbound Loop: "350 Physical Damage taken on Minion Death" This is a really frustrating inconsistency and stuff like this makes it really hard to theory-craft new and unique builds for this game. Cast when Damage Taken counts Damage - not Damage over Time. That's the key difference between Shimmeron/Righteous Fire/Blood Rage and Heartbound Loop.
(yeah this is hardly new :P People theorised about RF + CwDT a bunch...) |

Oh... That makes sense I guess.
For whatever reason I thought CwDT functioned off all damage with RF and Blood Rage being special exceptions. Knowing this, I kind of feel like a more appropriate name for the gem would be "Cast when Hit" or "Cast on Damaging Hit" since it clarifies this and uses similar language to Cast when Stunned. |
