Elder/Shaper items - what's the fuss about?

Hello,

I started a bit later on with this league and I am currectly mapping at yellow maps.
I did get to run some shaper/elder influenced maps and so got some loot from there.
Everyone is tits over heels about how OP those items are; especially weapons and support gem affixes in gloves.

But honestly, from my experience, the loot is extremely crap, the item has max of 1 other stat you actually want most of the time. So you don't get to wear it anyway.

The only use is for the infamous "fake dual-wield" where you use that item as a statstick and yes, that is truly OP because of those extra dmg affixes. But apart from that?
I haven't seen any good 2-hand yet, most likely you never even roll such one.

The inability of re-rolling those items with currency makes them a pick-and-trash items.

People who play self found are very unlikely to ever drop a shaper/elder item which would be good for that given build (not taking into consideration fake DW).
The drop rate is approx 1 such item per map, two if you have breach there. Again with no rerolls, the chances of getting anything useful are way too low.

Anyone else thinking there should be a way to re-roll other than shaper/elder affixes on that item? Or reroll all but always provide at least one of their affixes?

?? No direct experience - just started mapping in SSF AHC - but afaik these items are not corrupted (and they should've imho) so you can reroll them. They do not seem to guarantee a signature affix, but the possibility of a GG rare is slim but def there.

Isn't that the same as finding a mirror though? There is a possibility to find one but it is a slim chance?

If anything most of those pissed off folks are traders that are RMT-ing, don't see any other explanation.

Ok, let me correct myself - you can reroll them, but they never ever get any shaper/elder affix again. Tried with chaos, tried with alteration. They still have the fancy background though :-/

Yes, they do. The new affixes behaves like any other affix. I've already seen several multi-exalted items.

In that case I must have been quite unlucky cause I rolled it with like 30 chaos and another 60 alterations and haven't seen any of those affixes.
Gotta try again some time later then - I need that currency for other stuff atm :-/

You don't just Chaos spam unless you're that rich ffs had a friend spend 700+ chaos with no results don't do that.

It's the same as casinos though, poor people gamble hoping they'll win the big pot. Same here in Path of Exile with dem chaos/exalted orbs.

Theres alot of bad info in this thread. Shaped/Elder items CAN be rerolled over and over and will ALWAYS have a chance to hit their specific rolls, such as increased spell damage on a ring, or increased cooldown recovery speed on an belt, they just arent always there, it was common for me to go 30 or more chaos between cooldown recovery speed rolls when I was crafting my new belt.



I am currently working on getting the 31-35% spell damage on a ring along with top tier strength and life but it is very difficult, there are many new shaped rolls piled ontop of the old ones so it can be super expensive unless you are lucky. Currently about 700 chaos into my i86 shaped ring, no luck yet, waist took me roughly 320.

Obviously this is on standard, not something you could or should do on a league.

No point in bothering with crafting these unless you're filthy rich already.
If you dropped something really good - keep it for yourself, or sell it (not underpricing it is preferable, RIP my really good shaped sceptre that i've sold for 30c T_T), if you didn't - just vendor it.

Wasting chaos that you actually need to buy items for your build on craft is...yeah, don't do that :D.
