help me choose sunder, raise spectre, ethereal knives or essence drain for 3.1 drop a comment

available options are:
sunder gladiator 0
raise spectre necromancer? -0.5
ethereal knives inquisitor? +1
essence drain ascendancy? +1.5

all builds will be based of life purely and are expected to run with minimum investment

i played sunder at the end of harbinger and it was fun, easy to level and i actually broke many records for what types of maps i was able to run! cons: i just played this and i had some starting wealth.

i never actually played a proper raise spectre build and barely know how it works... but i haven't played a summoner in so long and would like to try one out for the start of a league again and take it seriously. the cons: i might get bored, i need to research, i might find it very slow until i get proper fireball spectres or whatever else is recommanded for clearspeed.

i can't remember when i last played an ethereal knives build before, i dislike the idea of nerfs so that's a thing... i kinda want to try this again. cons: i need to research this. also i don't know if it will be as fast or faster than my sunder success.

chose to include essence drain here because i thought maybe a life based essence drain character could be a good choice too. don't remember if i have ever made a proper build for them but i have been using it here and there. cons: i need to research this and i might find it slow compared to my sunder success...

why would you waste your time choosing for me you may ask? no reason. if you have came this far and actually read everything, just pick one at random.

edit 1
according to Namcap, spectres may require wealth, a thing i cannnot garantee i will have.
-0.5 to spectres because of the negative mindset i agree on
+1 to ethereal knives because it was the most positive vote
+0.5 to essence drain because i can manage the low clearspeed

edit 2
based on FCK42, ED+extras seem to provide a strong ability to deal with any issues you my run into and was the only voted for answer by user.
+1 to essence drain due to the positive view on the overall positive opinion on the skills capabilities of dealing with different situations and problems.

i am set for essence drain
I usually do not read popular posts again after i made a comment on it, unless it's one of my own. I wish to have a Black robed Grim Reaper micro set in game one day, grant my wish, GGG

I would not recommend spectres if you don't know you will have some wealth, but that is my personal opinion. Necros are going to be extremely popular for league start so bones of ulr and Vis mortis will be expensive. Without those, a 2 spectre necro isn't great. If you want to start as SRS/Spectres and transition into pure spectres that could work. Solar Guards are the best for map clearing, not so great at bosses. Tukohama vanguard will likely remain the best for single target/bosses.

EK is a great league starter. Go Inquisitor with crit and conversion to elemental damage. Tons of builds in the Templar subforum, no research required. Definitely faster than Sunder.

ED trickster/ascendant is a great league starter as well. Again tons of builds available, no research required. It's not the fastest, but it is pretty safe.

See below build guide for example (note I just searched for one to explain the concept I am not advertising this guy's build)

You convert EK's physical damage to elemental for easier scaling, as well as ignoring elemental resistances through Inquisitor ascendancy. Provides shocks and shatters for really fast map clearing.
For a league starter, I'd say ED/Contagion(/blight) here. It's by far the option that can ignore the most stuff. No leech? ED effect counds as life regen. Crit gear is expensive? You don't need that. No time to hit the boss? Cast once, dodge 5 seconds, cast again. No problems there. Reflect? Proxy shield? Doesn't matter against degen effects. The screen is full of monsters? Contagion gets them all eventually.

Other than that, the new corpse skills look promising. Maybe I'll go with some ultra lazy and retardedly weak scorching ray - cwc - unearth - bodyswap nonsense. Who knows.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.
so far so good

Hello there

I am actually in the same place as you, can't decide what to start with.
I haven't play the game for some time, this will be my first time to run the 10 acts. Awsome feeling but... what the hell do we play :D

So here's my oppinion on these skills

I don't like essence drain, even though the builds can be very powerfull, seems to me a really boring skill. So, boring for me = no way, no matter its power.

Spectres are a whole other concept if you haven't played a summoner before. Very interesting, fresh AND they got buffed and all. But, you may need some wealth, thats fine by me, the wealth challenge never scares me.

Sunder ?? A good overall skill for clearing, and high power potential.

I tried EK once with a witch and failed hard. Wasnt following any guides, and it was before ascendansies, so my experience doesnt say much, and I would love to try the skill again, and make it work this time. I think EK can be played with many classes like shadow, witch, templar, even ranger.

Now it depends on you, do you want to try something new? Go spectres.
Do you want to continue your previous success and see how far can go ?? Go sunder.
Do you want an easy budget starter build ?? Well, thats ED.
Interested in some cool convering physical to elemental mechanics, and a good looking skill ?? EK will work !

hey dude.. im not sure if im in a position to vote cuz im also gonna dive to ssfsc with necro spectre for the first time as well but im not a hard player.. really curious with the corpse consuming buff..but im thinking of using volatiledead or caustic at first just to try the mirage with it..

what ill do is if i find it really hard and lord rng wont side with me 'til mid of part 2, ill get a 2nd char..the icy inquisitor.. for me, ed is quickkiller with contagion and sunder is tankyoffense both are great.. sunder's 1st to get me to the endgame. havent tried ek yet.. i always use sumthing elemental with inq. so for me.. a plus for all except ek.. but ill take my risk with necrospec this time..it may be nerfd next time hehe.. my only dillemma is if im gonna be using bow for mirage or wand/shield ..still not done with my sketch haha and the league is only 8hrs away..

goodluck exile.. see you in the abyss..
