Game after crash crashes windows xp

Dear Sirs,

Since version 3.0 is quite unstable on my box running Windows XP (crashes occur at random every 30 minutes of playtime or so (bad allocation, freezing when joining a hideout (not finishing loading hideout instance etc.)

I dont mind the game crashing, since im used to it and its a work in progress and free to play, but on other Windows (newer) versions the same thing occurs. What I am bothered about is that it freezes the underlying operating system (I can not even turn it of via power on/off button, ctrl+alt+del does not work, mouse stops responding).

Could GGG do something about it. And If needed I can send some logs or telemetry data if the developer is willing to look at this.

3.0 did not crash Windows 7 when similar errors/bugs occured.

Best regards,

knofix

Windows XP is long, long past it's expiration date. Nobody, not even Microsoft, will support it any longer. You should upgrade that machine to a newer, actually supported, OS - which might have whatever driver or kernel bug is causing the machine to fail already fixed. (After all, driver vendors will abandon it just as the upstream vendor did...)

PS: having the game crash at all is an uncommon, unexpected thing. "crashing every 30 minutes" is absolutely, positively not something normal, and suggests there are significant issues with system stability or reliability on your machine. Given it still runs XP, it seems likely this is due to aging, and failing, hardware.

It matters not if XP is long past or not, the game runs on it.

Hardware is not failing for the PC works like a charm in any productivity tasks and new games that can be found on Steam that still support XP, be it Windows or Linux and the PC is stable. (tested with Prime95 and Furmark and Unigine running side by side for hours on Windows, and Phoronix Test Suite on Linux)

Before 3.0 game did not crash so often and/or did not freeze the OS (never froze OS before 3.0, did not have graphics glitches) so your arguments SlippyCheeze have no merit.

People reading this post please refrain yourself from posting nonsense, clearly the game is having issues and if and any developer is willing to look into it I would be more than happy to send any data regarding hardware or software, logs and any other data needed to rectify the problem.

Best regards,

Well like you have been told by others, Windows XP is no longer a supported OS. So yes, maybe you can install and run the game, but since the OS is no longer supported by Microsoft GGG will not waste time on it. Since version 3.0 many changes have been made to the game and to support these, you need to run it on a system that is "up to date" with drivers and patches. Neither is possible when using Windows XP.
So if you want to play PoE and get support, you need to change your OS to Windows 10.

I'm sorry that you disagree with our statements, but that does not make this "nonsense".

I also appreciate that you don't particularly want to upgrade, possibly at real world $$$ cost to yourself, but ... life isn't always what we want.

Anyway, feel free to wait for PoE developers to comment, but I wouldn't hold my breath. You might have more luck directly contacting support by email, which should at least get a personalized response. (I warn you, though, they will almost certainly tell you exactly what we just did.)

Hmm, good idea there. Plz hold your breath and wait for GGG reply... :)

But if you really feel that the games have all these problems, why don't you contact GGG directly at support@grindinggear.com regarding this and see what happens.

However I would like to remind you that this game is free so since you didn't pay for it you have to follow their guidelines in regarding OS and such. :)

Regardless of what you feel it's not trolling.

XP is dead, everything has dropped it, including stuff like making sure drivers work on it, direct x works on it and much more stuff core to running games.

As much as you may wan't GGG to do something about it they are under no obligation to do so, to the point it would probably be cheaper for them to upgrade players XP PC's than spend time, money and people power to "fix" it for you.

Exactly. I'm real sorry, knofix, that you want to keep running XP long after it was not just dead, not just buried, but long after a necromancer raised it as a zombie, and it died again.

Nobody here is saying this to upset you. The goal isn't to make you miserable, it is to (try and) convince you of the unfortunate and undesirable fact is that ... XP is dead, and you will not get good support, help, or comfort while you keep using it. I'm really sorry.
