Need help with sustaining RF
Hey Everyone and Anyone,
I am using Righteous Fire as a new build for my Templar. I am level 38 and just acquired the skill gem a few levels ago. When I activate the skill, I start rapidly losing health, however I have 103% Fire Resistance and 22% Life Regen. Can anyone help explain why I cannot sustain it? There is a cap of 75% Resistance to Fire Damage. You can increase this cap in various ways - doing so is one of the cornerstones of Righteous Fire builds - but there's no way you've over 100% Fire Resistance. I'd guess you currently have a cap of maybe 76%, which won't be enough to sustain RF - at least not with absolutely massive Life Regeneration.
If you want help with your character you can allow us to view your characters so we can see their gear, passives, and so on. This makes it easier to offer tailored advice. Whether you want to do that is totally up to you; if you're not comfortable doing so, that's fine. "VPs are not required to change their posting style. I experimenting on the xbox version of the game. Let me know if there is a decent way for you to observe the character.
It says 75% Fire Resistance (103%). Does this mean I really don't have 103% resistance to fire? What do I need to sustain RF? |

" To expand on this: you probably see 103% in parentheses for fire resistance on your character sheet. This is what the game calls "uncapped resistance" and pretty much means "what your resistance would be if there were no cap." It doesn't directly influence your resistance in any way. The game is very traditional about this - resistance above the cap gives you no direct benefit. One of the largest sources of additional maximum fire resistance is Rise of the Phoenix Mosaic Kite Shield at a whopping 8%. Now that may sound sarcastic but what a lot of people don't realise is that reductions below 100% have increasing proportional returns - each 1% yields greater and greater lessening. Starting from 75% resistance, this effect is a 4x magnification (because you divide by 0.25 instead of 1.00), i.e. 8% fire resistance grants 32% less fire damage taken. Need game info? That means you have 75% Fire Resistance currently. If your character's Fire Resistance is reduced in some way, getting cursed with Flammability for example, it's the 103% which will be reduced. However for the purposes of damage calculations, only the capped Resistance value will apply.
You can increase your Fire Resistance by;

Thank you for clarifying the Fire Resistance issue but now I have more confusion on RF. I was reading that the Life Regen required for RF is this equation...(100-Fire Res)*.9 = Absolute Minimal Life Regen.
So then according to my stats, (100-75)*.9 = 22.5% So does this mean I only need 23% life regen to sustain the skill? |

"Only" 23% life regen? That is basically unattainable. My level 89 RF char has around 14% life regen. I could increase this a bit, but I'd never break 20%.

Okay so this is only contributing to the confusing. Because I see these "god" builds using RF and they have all these unique items and whatnot. Yet all they say is Fire Resistance and Life Regen. Since there is a cap, how is it expected to reach sustainability?

" That would be if you only had Life; Energy Shield complicates matters, but suffice to say if you focus mainly on maximum Life, any Energy Shield you get will only hurt you harder. And yes, 22% permanent life regen is quite a tall order, something rarely seen. Is it possible you've confused 'x.y life regenerated per second" on gear with "x% Life regenerated per second"? Most regen on gear is quite accurately called garbage, because it regenerates absolute life points, not a % of max. Need game info? Check out the Wiki at: https://www.poewiki.net/

Maybe I am confusing it. I'm just looking at the Life Regenerated per Second under the character tab.
