Unbound Ailments what is it good for?

If I have any support gem above 30%more damage it is already more effective than unbound ailments, beside the extra duration on it. And I also get more damage on the hit portion of it too

Idk, me thinks all that ailment department is just a placeholder for balance team as for now.
Poison. That's pretty much it.

Since poison's dps scales directly on duration, the 'more damage' as well as the 'increased ailment duration' both help out your total poison dps pretty well. If by chance you're using poison with no other source of inc poison duration, a 20/20 unbound ailments is 100.2% more poison damage. Even if you've got a solid amount of inc poison duration already (let's say 80%) it'd still be 69% more poison damage... way better than Deadly Ailments, without a downside (and with a lower mana mult).

But yeah, that's mostly it. There's a few other niche uses, like extending bleed duration to make it a little more reliable for a Bloodlust setup, but mostly it's a pure poison thing.
Would this not make certain ailments easier to attain with less damage output on bosses for instance?

I don't know the mechanics of shock very well, but I remember vaugely that you need to do a certain percentage of the targets total life in order to have a nonzero chance to shock, but that percentage is adjusted based on ailment duration. So combining this with an increased duration gem, would allow you to keep a shock on a boss more feasible?

Someone back me up on this guess....
