general question on sockets/links on gear

hey all,

i have a 5 linked/5 socket chest piece. i seem to be unable to use a jewellers orb on it to chance at getting 6 sockets. im wondering what im doing wrong because im under the assumption that a belly of the beast chest piece can have 6 total sockets. thanks for feedback

maybe the item level is too low?

Only thing I can think of is that its still equipped.

Anyway, keep the 5 link and save up/buy another belly to try and 6 link. You dont want to smash your head against the RNG wall with your primary source of damage. Trust me.

They do this to protect you from the mistake you tried to make. You almost never want to use a jeweller's on a 5 link. If you could, it would most likely leave you with a few sockets with random links. Keep using your 5 link. Buy another of the same/similar item and try to 6 link that one.

If you REALLY want to try with this item, use the artisan's bench and select 'two sockets'.

Item level below 50

Press alt and hover your coursor over the item to see the item level.

You can still use Vorici's crafting option to add the maximum sockets and links no matter what the item level is.
