■ DEATH AURA OCCULTIST TANK ■
Hello there, and welcome to this guide to build death aura properly as a CI occultist. There is multiples ways to go about this, but I'll go for a tanky version that still maximises the damage output of death aura. Important information

I played this build up to level 81, but got bored of it. Extremely tanky, but death aura's damage feels underwhelming. The clearspeed is decent, and the pvp part of it is amazing if you're into that sort of things. I like more damaging skills tho, and feel like there's just better options to tackle the endgame.
That said, it's cheap and able to do all maps easely, but not guardians, shaper and uber. It's also pretty cheap, so why not give it a go? Must know death aura mechanics

Death aura is an aura that comes from: It's tags are: Aura, Chaos, AOE It deals damage over time, but does NOT have the duration tag. This means only 3 gems affect it by default: Concentrated effect, Increased aoe, void manipulation. Worth noting that added chaos damage works, but since the spell doesn't hit, it's rather useless. We use Arcane surge linked to death aura to add the duration tag and allow the 3 other gems to have an effect on death aura's damage. Optimal setup is in the armor above. One last thing: death aura BASE damage gets scaled by aura effect, so we get lots of it. (altho tooltip doesn't take in consideration aura effect) Build concept

We use death aura to clear trash, and essence drain for single target. Essence drain is good because you can keep moving as it deals damage to the target. Blight is slightly better with allelopathy, but a trickster version of death aura (wayyy less tanky for not a lot more damage) will do better at using blight. For defence, we are an occultist with wicked ward. Xirgil's crank is the obvious go to: We also get 78/75 attack/spell block for good measures. And triple curses with enfeeble/temp chains. Gear

Mandatory uniques All of this is pretty damn cheap. for the body armor, just use voirici to get 5 off colors using jeweller's orbs. No links are needed, gems order doesn't matter. Additionnal Rares Just fill up your resists really. Upgrades ■ DEATH'S DOOR are really good! Solves the big bleed issue, since dots are a threat for block builds. ■ Increased chaos damage on rings ■ +3 level unset (for discipline es). Keep in mind that +0level/T1es is better than +3levels and no es, even with our aura effect. ■ Reduced flask charges used on belt is also good. Gems

■ CWDT is better than cast when stunned, if you can get 4Red sockets. Otherwise we get stunned as CI so it's fine. ■ If you have a level 3 enlighten and are level 96+, you can drop arctic armor for vitality. If you're struggling with mana reservation, just drop arctic armor. Skill tree

In the first few levels, I leveled using blight. You can use any AOE spell really since the tree just takes generic spell damage and a bit of life.

T took them at around level 30 and removed them later on. Then, go towards the ranger area and grab life and damage. You can do this sooner if you feel like it. Since we don't have AOE, use contagion. This is also the point where you will start to have a low health pool. An easy answer is to go hybrid, make sure to have a bit of ES on your gear.
