I never tried SRS and since your build does not use spectres or zombies, it will be a very well fitted league starter for me, I'll explain why. I lost my GPU a few months ago and am runing on a low g.card that can't handle the vast majority of skills, and SRS not only looks like it is not very heavy on the graphical requirements, it can also kill off screen and/or far away so it's quite welcome for my case.

I am testing it on the last days of Mayhem and I am liking it so far. You obviously need a couple of support gems to get it started (melee splash, minion damage) but once you got that it is doing good. I'll see if I can get as far as possible before the end of the league to be sure it's not too much of a ressource eater, since Desecreate and specialy Flesh Offering are a bit heavy in that aspect.

My Necro Spectra Summoner ripped at lv 73 to a one shot in a blue rolled Tier 2 beach map... in Mayhem HC SSF, right through 4.1k life and 1k MOM, plus bone offering....

rerolled as a Saboteur miner, damn tedious inching through invasion bosses in the early levels, but then a Lycosiade dropped from an exile in cavern of Anger!

Might try this build out then, before all my gear goes to the void :P

I have played SRS with a staff long time ago :)
I am doing your build and i need some explanation how to attack (mechanics).
I am lvl 89 atm with all of the core items to make it work. Right now i understand that i need to cap resistances, get as much life as possible, Shield charge into enemies.. And cast srs? Why do i need ball of storms and when to cast vaal Lightning trap etc :) - its pretty different from just casting srs :)
Sry for too noob questions but i havent played long.
Found these items in Mayhem HCSSF. The amulet drops like candy from exiles in low level zones, actually, and is great for SRS leveling - move speed, damage and mana cost reduction.

Now the shield is a +2 to minion gems, and you get to use it at lv 23. Far earlier than a +2 minion helm, and your SRS will hit very hard at that level, but I will have to run the numbers in POB to see if it's better than a 4 link +1 minion helm you can roll with the recipe later on, or from drops.
Plus the 10% increased aura effect doesn't hurt





You should add these to your leveling guide


Also a devouring totem is actually pretty handy early on to keep your life and mana up as you spam SRS, with all the giant packs around



edit - yeap a +2 minion 3 link is about 20+% better DPS than a +1 4 link for SRS, especially at low SRS gem level.
Also according to POB, at low levels (SRS at level 1-7) Empower/Added Cold do more DPS than things like melee physical, ruthless etc

Well, unfortunately it's quite harsh on my rig in maps. Flesh Offering and the Rampage effects are quite heavy on the ressources, got to 14 FPS in a Breach at some point. If I stay far away and don't use Flesh Offering too often it is pretty nice but yeah, not gonna stick for too long sadly.

It sucks because I really like it, very nice to play and can kill anything big super fast. What a bloody boss destroyer ! Amazing. Could not kill the Essences, or Lieutenants fast enough because Izaro was already dead, nice full Lab runner I guess ha ha ! Did not even use Scourge or the Grip gloves (nobody was trading them in Mayhem) and the damage was still decent.

I'm still gonna play it in Abyss because it's such a cool build, and could be useful for some situations, maybe help my friend leveling too, he is a bit of a newbie in this game and will probably play a slow build.

The Baron: Now adds half of your Strength to your Minions (rather than all of your strength). This affects all versions of the item.

Yes, I saw the patchnotes :) (went over it a bit on stream). I will try my best to update the guide to accommodate the changes over the next few days before Abyss hits (as well as trying to make a new build xD).

I enjoyed playing this build, but will the pathing for the minion summoning farther away from an enemy be fixed? I had to stand right on top of enemies to get my spirits to lock onto the mobs, and took a lot of damage because of it, making me die pretty consistently in large packs.

This is a crazy buff -

Raging Spirits now have a 15% less Added Damage multiplier, up from 30%.



Also skeles in this build already hit really hard, I was destroying bosses with SRS + skele totem. But now

Summoned Skeletons now have a 50% more added damage multiplier, up from 30% less added damage.

that just about doubles their damage with hatred.... 75k per skele in 4 link totem setup in +2 minion helm with maim currently. Easy 1 million Shaper DPS or more now.
Better than a decoy totem
