They are both considered RPGs although POE is an ARPG but really they are 2 different experiences of a game to compare.

From the screenshots they look very similar (art style for example), being a fan of BG since it came out. I wouldnt know if they are the same gameplay wise. In what ways is the gameplay different anyway?

BG is round based with the DnD ruleset.
PoE has real time battles with its own rules. BG is a book with gameplay, PoE is an action game with some story. Disregard witches, aquire currency.

Though if you are one for nostalgia factor purely, the art style IS similar in places. The prison made the opening Irenicus sewer lair pop into my head several times.

" This does sum it up quite a bit.I would also say combat is more strategic in games like Baldurs gate, any RPG where you can pause the action is going to be.ARPGs are more reaction based. There is strategy in ARGS but its more how you build your character and gear. Loot is more significant in a game like POE where you have a ton of stats on items. If you've played Diablo,Dungeon siege,Sacred,Titan quest its more inline with them. |

Yeah, looking at some of the screenshots got me all excited. I've never played diablo but I can tell that PoE is going to be a unique game from what I see. Can't wait to get my key :)
