Well, PoE passed the wife test...

A bit of background: my wife is a HUGE ARPG fan. Back in the day, we both played the Diablo beta when we were dating. 10+ years later, we're stuck playing the same game (Titan Quest + Expansion) for years on end. My wife is a MASTER at anything RPG; she's played them all and she also plays Magic the Gathering on X360. She has been DYING to play a new ARPG game, and finally we find something that is perfect for us. My son also plays TQIT with us, and he is really pumped about PoE. My wife is a HS science teacher, so she doesn't have a lot of time to research new and upcoming RPGs for merit. I downloaded PoE with the hopes that I'd finally found something that she'd be interested in and, lo and behold, we have a hit!

What makes this game so great is the fact that it actually takes advantage of the fact that it's an online game and adds value. For instance, what's the point of having to connect to a server when the character is stored locally? With PoE, your characters are stored on the server; this is a HUGE advantage (esp. when the husband is an IT professional who is expected to restore these characters in the event of a HD crash).

While my wife really enjoys ARPG games, she HATES MMORPGs. She doesn't have the time to commit to these types of games, since they are persistent. I think the model that PoE has adopted is perfect for people like us; too many games are going MMORPG, and it's just not a realistic business model for busy parents who grew up playing RPGs, but just don't have as much time now.

I (and now my wife) think PoE looks to be a great game, and I plan to support it. The business model is unique, and I'd like to see it work. My family would typically spend $150 for DIII x3 in order to play as a family, so I pledge to spend the same amount on PoE. If we want to see this game succeed, we need to pony up for the excellent work that GGG has done. I mean come on, the graphics are freakin' AMAZING, IMO! I don't really care about the color of my armor, but I'll find something to spend the money on! I also LOVE the fact that you're using "ethical micro-payments" as a model. I would pay good money for this game outright (provided that it isn't an MMORPG that requires a subscription), but the EMP model is what I hope is the new norm. We have to make it work though, by supporting it. We talk a lot on Reddit about making a difference, but we really have to make the effort financially.

Anyway, that's my 2 pence and I think that GGG is doing a GREAT job!

PS. Any chance of a new bunch of friend invite keys? I'd love to set it up where me, my wife and son could play at the same time...

has she tried torchlight?
Must be nice to have the whole family playing computer games together.
Congrats....My wife hates all my games!
I'm hoping my wife enjoys PoE, we haven't had a game we play together since we stopped playing MMOs.

And waiting on Torchlight2/Diablo3 seems to be a lesson in futility.
There people who have been waiting months for keys, please share your account with your family and let others get a chance to play thanks.
Great post about a great game. If you want a key you should head over to:

If you ask a question, you could receive a key!

Yes, she's played torchlight as well. No networking though. :(
