An unexpected disconnect occured - 3.0

New player here. Decided to try out the game. Downloaded the game and booted it, get "an unexpected disconnect" every 15-20 min, and every time this happens I'm back in town when I relog. This is literally unplayable.
I also know this issue is not on my end since I'm an MMORPG player and no form of disconnects ever happen to me.
Oh well, looks like I'll have to pass this game by.

That's a shame because this is a wonderful game. However, I can personally fully understand your decision. Since 3.1 the disconnects have become even more frequent, so it's not getting better sadly.

For the comments posted a couple of posts back in an attempt at sarcastic humour, those requested traceroutes and mtr readings etc are probably not provided because quite a lot of us can see that they're simply a smokescreen. Personally, I have run all those tests asked for and my connection of 10ms to the London server has zero packet loss and no unnecessary jumps. Yet still I have to log in 3x and get dc'd at random points when loading either towns or some maps. MY Fibre connection is super stable, and I literally live yards from the fibre cabinet, so it's nothing to do with any internet drops either.

As I've stated in various other posts on this subject I've also been playing loads of other server based games of various types for many years and never had these issues in any other game either. It's 100% an issue with either the server setup or its communication setup used or the game engine coding itself. It's quite simple, use the Conan Doyle process of elimination.

Personally, I still cannot shake the feeling that it is something to do with running the game in DX11 although I have yet to test that thoroughly myself. Perhaps I will test that tonight.
I loved Path of Exile.
I do not love Path of RNG.
Bloom gives me migraines, the over usage of darkness strains my eyes.
Save our game, remove all of the constant RNG and allow us to turn off Bloom or give us an in game brightness control!
Quick update to my last post. Running in DX9 DID reduce the number of dc's, but not eliminate them entirely. Unfortunately running a 32bit client also caused a load of what appeared like lag, although it couldn't be communication lag as I was on exactly the same connection as on the DX11 64bit client which had zero lag.

The fact though that the dc's were apparent in both versions (with graphics lowered as much as possible for testing) disproves my theory that it was related to the DX version used.

So, as GGG don't want to acknowledge the problem let alone fix it, I guess I'll just put up with it until it becomes completely unbearable at which point I guess I'll go do something else instead. It's such a shame...

Yeah, i guess that 'only' 12 pages of people complaining since august isn't enough for them... looks like we will need at least 100+ pages HAHA

Problem is, it has been going on much longer. 2 years atleast now, though it has gotten much worse with every new major patch.

I will also add, it gets worse at peak times, which it becomes unplayable for me.

I have same kind of issues starting after end of harbringer. Iv noticed that some of the DCs are caused by DX11 so switching to DX9 reduced them but i still get DCs to packet loss every 10mins or so.

Which shows that it´s on their end. I assume the servers are on such high load, that players with slower connections (time it takes for the game files to load), are just kicked from the server, to make space for others in line.

There is clearly a forced DC from their servers and it would not take much to disable that. Why, they don´t do that, remains their secret.
Hi guys,

Just to add a bit of salt to our discussion.

I quit.

I mean, I'm trying to deal with this issue for the last two years. 32 bit, 64 bit, window fullscreen, fullscreen, vsync, no vsync etc, countless solutions, nothing really worked.

Honestly, since I left D3 I have never been playing a better game than PoE but enough is enough. I got tired of running from one place to another just to be disconnected in the mean time. Twice.

Good luck everybody and thank you for hours of great fun!

I am in the somewhat fortunate position of being able to play quite a few hours during the week, and as such i have lots of hours playing at all times from 10am - 3am 7 days a week. I've also noticed that the dc's increase by a large margin on the UK London server during UK "peak" times. I've also tested on the Amsterdam & Frankfurt servers. Same result.

I would also entirely agree that the issue is aggravated on GGG's server side. Who knows what the exact root cause is, whether it's DX11 or a perfect cocktail of certain makes of hardware married with Win x64 & DX11. I don't know. One of my mates who is also in the UK who plays suffers from a lot less disconnects, and the only difference we have is slight geographic location and hardware specs.

Regardless of all that though, the fact remains that there are a huge number of players that also suffer from this, and it only seems to occur with this particular game. So, I find it absolutely astounding and more than a little upsetting that GGG completely fail to acknowledge the problem or even look into it. The one common denominator in all these reports is PoE & PoE alone. It simply doesn't happen with other online games. So, all these requests for individual posts & MTR reports etc etc are simply smoke & mirrors (I'm being as polite as I can here, I could easily call it something else). Either way, them ignoring the problem is really starting to make me angrier every new time I DC every day. I love the game, but I am far far from impressed with GGG as a company for the way in which they are ignoring this one rather huge problem with their product.

This is just ridiculous, i've been playing for at least 2 years and i never had this problem. With the last patch i get disconnected almost every minute. The lag spikes are crazy too, and i don't have this problem with other games, no lag and no disconnection, so this problem lies on GGG side.
I really hope they fix this soon, it's one of the games that i like the most but this problem is ruining it.

And if you read the first paragraph of the first sticky of this forum, you would already know why no one is getting any help in a thread such as this. Furthermore, had you read the stickies, you would know what sort of information to post, which no one has done.

By all means though, continue to ignore the rules for this forum and the requests for specific information made in the stickies...it's gone so well already for you all. /s

Why can I not report this guy?

He's completely out of control.

His garbage is not contributing to the conversation.

What info are people supposed to be posting? It's an issue with GGG's unpacking/caching of assets, and handshaking, and cthka - these are not things end-user clients can affect in any way.

Agreed entirely.

I made my own report thread along with the officially required MTR info. I can only hope that as this conforms to the requested format specified that I might actually get a response. I had 7 dc's in the last 3 hours alone...
