Fresh install crash - "Received a packet that is too large to deserialize"

After running the installer from the "Download Now!" button above and trying to run the game for the first time, it keeps crashing with the above message.

Am on Windows 7 x64. My other online programs seem to be working fine.

EDIT: Using DSL, no wi-fi

I have the same error message. The only advice online says to uninstall my wireless network drivers, but I am hard lined on an Ethernet cable and still getting the error.
I'm having the same issue. Not on wifi either.
You guys had any luck solving this?

I've tried adding PoE to antivirus/firewall exceptions, checking for updated drivers and (of course) restarting my computer/modem. Nothing's worked so far.
I found a fix for this that worked for me. Uninstall the current installation and then reinstall in a folder you create in a different folder. Click options on the installer and just make a new folder somewhere other than the programs files folder. I made a GGG folder under my User for instance. Seems to be a permissions issue.
Same error: "Received a packet that is too large to deserialise"

New computer and a fresh install, have tried three different local directories to install to. Have tried on both WiFi (first and second attempts) and on wired-directly-to-the-cable-modem (third attempt). For the fourth attempt, I tried a second computer entirely (2 year-old netbook, that will only run the game on lowest settings) using a wired connection, and got the same error when trying to install. Double checked all drivers to make sure I had the most recent network drivers (for both computers, and for both wired and wireless NICs).

This is getting ridiculous.
Same issue here - but using mac os x and the unofficial client
