[3.0] (Updated) Dark Pact Occultist theory craft

Just came out with another non-crit build.

Some basic stats:

Lvl: 92

Offense:
DPS Mobs/Bosses/Shaper: 453K/396K/358K
Cast rate: 5.72
Area of Effect : increased 44%.

With one Apep's Rage, Opal Wand ONLY (without any other source of damage increased from armours, amulets,rings or flasks)

Defense:
Life: 241%
Life/Mana leech : 2% (curse)
Vaal Pact
Armour/Evasion based items (with + Life)

Jewel sockets: 5, no mandatory jewel needed (maybe)

Ascendancy: Void beacon, Malediction, others are not that useful.

Inspired by VanGhul's MoM+EB build.
So why I'm not using the MoM build?

After studied the MoM build, I began to wonder, since the mana leech doesn't apply to Energy shield (but uses it as a resource), without a very fast recharge start time it is hard to sustain the energy shield. And once the energy shield is consumed (for example in a hard boss fight), as well as the mana, what is more critical to this situation is that you don't have enough mana to cast a spell. In case of some hard fights, no mana = no cast = no life leech = death.
So instead, rather than using MoM, it seems to be more reliable with the "traditional" way to mitigate damage income such as the good ol Life+Armour+Evasion, and we're using a shield (in this case, "The surrender") which provides high armour, life and 30% block chance.

The PoB has Updated, now it has options to choose self-cast or cast on skel.
the DPS output has however exceeded my previous test.

The DPS updated recently is
Mobs / Bosses / Shaper&Guardians = 282K / 216k / 186K

Interesting thing is, the life leech seems to be too much for a 156% increased life char.
Which means, as long as you don't get 1 shot, you will instantly leech to full life.... MoM might be a solid option to mitigate the damage income.

And if not using the Leech Support, switching it to concentrated effect or controlled destruction can significantly increase the DPS. (though this will suffer against curse immune)

Will do more digging in it with more informations.

Since the new gem Dark Pact came out I've been trying to make a decent build around this. at last it came out with this "Self-Explode" thing.

The description of the skill is here:


I'm using path of building to test its damage.

Before we start, we need to see if the "152% more damage if self-cast" is already applied to the skill in path of buildings.
Turns out the Dark Pact without anything has an average hit of 257 and a dps of 514 in path of building, which means the dps output calculated by Path of building should be 152% more (x 2.52).
The PoB has been updated properly, check above.


I'll just list the final result here:
The items for the test are just some rare items provided in the path of building,

the ones that actually affect the damage are:

A pair of Platinum Kris with stats like this.
50% increased Global Critical Strike Chance
77% increased Spell Damage
12% increased Attack Speed
50% increased Critical Strike Chance for Spells
+27% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier
+18 to maximum Mana

And a pair of diamond ring which provides each 25% increased Global Critical Strike Chance.

NOTHING MORE

It should be fairly enough for the cost of HP and some survival needs.

Occultist ascendancy: Forbidden Power > Profane bloom > Malediction > Void Beacon

So yeah, this is an Occultist crit-based build with up to 6 power charges.

Looks good. I had something similiar in mind, but swapped crit for more life and trying a MoM+EB Combo. I just don´t feel comfortable anymore with squishy builds i guess.
It´s like an counterpart of your build, focusing on beeing tanky (hopefully, but we will see)
Though your build seems to make sense. I'll come back here and inform you how a more tankier build went.

Picked reserved mana nodes between Ranger and Shadow and reserved all mana for tri curse:
-Blasphemy
-Warlord's Mark
-Enfeeble
-Temporal Chains
Swapped Forbidden Power with Wicked Ward to ensure more reliable sustain for MoM+EB.

Coming up to:

6250 Life / 2950 ES for MoM+EB with mediocre gear and an average DPS of 112k. Not sure about Guardians and Shaper, but should enable reliable map farming.

Mentionable Uniques could be:
- Void Battery and Voidbringer (for crit build)
- Apep's (if without crit, though i hate how immobile wands make you)
- Cherrubim's

Otherwise i only theory crafted with rare items, keeping in mind i need an +1 curse amulett.
Oh and PoB still does not calculate any damage according to the 6% life you sacrifice with Dark Pact.

Would be nice if you could inform us how your build went, when you start mapping and progress.

- crit
- tank
- totems
- maybe poison

I love chaos, i´m kinda excited for this new spell :D
What's the area of effect like? Comparable to discharge? Or bigger?
Can you share your build with pastebin? would like to play around with it a little... =)
Got a question, Does Dark Pact works on spell totems? i mean the totem's hp will be used, like RF Totems?
Spell Echo doesn't work with channeled skills.

Now it seems a bit more solid to play, at least looks like a proper melee char with some toughness.

I'll probably won't start with dark pact, but I will start with a family pizza build (flameblast). So yeah, still a witch and I will try for it later.

I'm still a bit confused how to properly scale a "Hit Chaos Spell without DoT". I've done a chaos vortex build before (with a cold to fire 100% ring, and consuming dark x2, etc. which is already nerfed), but that contains several dippins (cold, fire, chaos, spell, even DoT).

But this Dark Pact, as far as I know, only scales with Spell Damage, AoE Damage and Chaos Damage, and there are not many of them in the whole skill tree. So the only way I currently figured out is using spell crit to build up its damage.

If it works well with trap or totems, it might be a very good option that it could scale as well with Trap Damage or Totem Damage. Just we don't know if it is worth for the damage (we can trade life leech and toughness and others to more damage).

I don't think poison would be valid for this build, since it's not a "quick stacker" like blade flurry, and Poison nowadays in 3.0 (for now at least) is simply very weak compared to other Hit Skills. It scales terrible.

I'm very glad but this build for now is just a theory craft, it might not be valid at all in the end xD

hm, indeed. I guess we have to see how good we can sustain the 6% damage if we boost cast speed (spell echo). The % more when selfcast was why i was thinking about poison in the first place. Well, needs testing.
