Lightning strike - melee hit related question

I am wondering when you hit a target with the melee hit, does it also get hit by the projectiles? Or can a target only be hit by one or the other?
Any lightning strike gods out there with the knowledge :)?

You can never hit the same target with both, unless you use chain and have something to chain from.

Could you please prove like source of this information^^? It is kind of difficult to just take a random statement out of the blue as the truth...

Well i was just thinking because both molten strike and static strike can. And if lightning strike cant i guess it is just a way worse single target option than those others that can i guess..
And also looks on the animation like the projectiles actually shoot from the character, rather than like a place outside from you so just feels like it should.

This is not just a random statement but also common sense and in line with the skill's description. If the projectile did hit the melee target you would have one of the strongest single-target skills in the game (300%+ base damage at max level) that is also able to clear over the edge of the screen. Static and Molten are much more restricted in range, and have other downsides, like delayed damage.

Another easy common-sense "proof" is that if the projectile did hit the melee target then one of the projetiles would be blocked and you would see one less flying out, on a character that doesn't have any pierce chance. This does not happen.

Feel free to test it yourself and post screenshots or a video instead of asking others to do this work for you. It's not like this would take more than a few minutes or a specialized character.
