Overhaul, fix PvP in Path of Exile

I have written about two issues in threads here before, but let's be honest - PvP in PoE is currently crap, while it should be one of top features.

So instead of pointing particular issues, I'll just describe how I think it should look like and is more-less essential in good, modern hack'n'slash.

Essentials:

1) You can farm and PvP with same builds easily. Naturally some could be better optimized to PvP some for non-PvP, but you should be able to play both with the same builds.
2) Many different game modes. Actually this looks now conceptually ok, although I couldn't find any opponents for e.g. ctf yet. So basically 1v1, many v many, CTF, Arena Deathmatch, perhaps also new mode - mixed bands of players and AI creatures against each other in two teams.
3) Regardless of level, gear and the current overall power of a character, it should be playable and enjoyable at similar level.
4) Rankings per game mode and league obviously.
5) Matching opponents or team members with similar ranking.

So to summarize what can be fixed comparing to current situation:

1v1
- settings of how big the ranking difference is acceptable to even start the match. This is ridiculous currently when I either have a streak of 5 one click wins or 5 killed before click looses. Not to mention of pairing again with the same player that the match has just finished.

Arena
No division connected with basic difficulty levels, just Arena tiers. Players that start to dominate will be promoted to higher tier. Players that just get killed will be degraded to lower tier, where the game would be more fun to them. Well that would not happen often as typically there would be a progression up starting from lowest tier on lvl 1.

"You have great power. You're right to be proud. It's unfortunate you have to die now, but I will honor you with 45% of my strength."
Many of your changes which u suggested are great Aodui. Some of them have been requested for years. The biggest fix is making a queue where any league can join and fight eachother. Many people freak out when this is suggested but I dont think they understand what we actually mean. Adding a an additional global queue to the existing queues and not removing any of the originals. Basically every point you made the majority of the pvp community supports.

Pretty much anything Aodui says I'll agree with - except Winter... it's so fun... and yet yeah, broken.

So okay, I agree with everything Aodui says.

But alas, Rupenus is right... just buff shit to compensate for OP skills, don't nerf.

Everything will balance in the end...

Again, don't nerf.

PoE power redistribution is much like income redistribution: one can't just take money from others and give more people, more money, it just makes more money worth less.

PvP still totally broken.

Currently in Standard PvP for non PvP oriented characters is somehow fun only for lvl 90+, full ascendance, 30-50ex+ total market worth of equipment. No wonder why encountering anybody below that strength in PvP is rarity - both Arena and 1v1. Never really had an opportunity to play 3v3 or CTF, because couldn't ever get into a game when waiting up to 5 mins.

Typically if you have a universal build, there are some aspects that you can't use effectivelly in PvP, e.g. vaal skill gems, charges, so the Arena and 1v1 queue are mostly occupied with PvP turbo builds. Such ppl probably have some sadistic fun. Recently I came upon another pathology - two Russians with some uber builds occupied Arena teaming up and killing easily everybody who entered.

GGG should focus now on improving for fun, casual capabilities of this game (obviously not breaking the competive part) and that includes PvP. GGG get the work done pls. Start with simple fixes, then go for overhaul.

I want to remind that Diablo 2 showed the way of successful hack'n'slash - involving farming and PvP. You simply cannot have a proper hack'n'slash game without both of them for sane people. Obviously some ppl will make PvP specialised builds. But others want to have just universal ones - progress both in PvP and farming rates. And those cannot be owned all the time they enter PvP. So tiers, ranks, rankings and so on. And banning exploiters who only take sadistic pleasure of winning all the time. Perhaps also balancing stuff in a way that gap between PvP specialised builds and universal builds decrease.

I was above refering to standard. But those problems, some more leniently apply to challenge leagues also. When I was playing Legacy I remember them as well - if you are not in the first wave of building up players, whenever you enter Arena or 1v1, you get owned. There is no working filter to play with enemies closer to your level and power on average.

I believe "Putin" is unemployed, he is there everyday 24/7 waiting for people to come in the arena just to troll them with his signal fire/zerphi build XD

1 big thing contributing to all your problems:

Lol, D2 Pvp was something the devs never thought about and never officialy supported. They just added the hostile button for the lulz but never expected that so many players got into it.

Everyone need to realize that PoE pvp is dead. Too many bullshit stuff to fix, too many broken combinaison to changes for something no one cares about (seriously, it's been two days without anyone posting in both pvp sections of the forum). GGG will never fix it, they will only give you some blurry statement about the future so you can buy more Supporter pack.

Every serious player who played the game for long enough had realize that pvp in this game is beyond salvation. We put so much efforts, so many walls of text with dmg formula, so many suggestions how to fix it and we got almost nothing in return (hurray, they disabled Inquisitor and tweaked a bit DoT damage...).

Even pve is not fun anymore because the game evolved to mostly please the casual crowd generating too much money for GGG to think about going back (look at how many people complain about Kitava when it's one of the most easiest boss to kill with a bit of reflexes).

I don't think PvP can really get more casual friendly then it is now. Not having to move, aim, think, be good at all or even be at your PC in some cases....but net kills regularly. This game actually punishes you in several different ways for even trying to play like you're not a casual scrub. It's because this game is too casual friendly that it sucks. Ya you open it up for the first time and see a few pseudo complicated mechanics. Then you fast forward a few minutes/days...."Wow this games pretty fucken scrubby and there's a lot of sheep here all doing the same thing. Yet even though they are all doing the same thing will tell you straight faced it's not too good".
GGG, the ADA of gaming....huuuur i gotz mai skilz.
