Witch - [2.6] Elementalist Emberwake BV - Forum

Disclaimer: I only finished early leveling this character(finished merciless and started mapping) with it and won't be able to play PoE in the next few weeks so can't really guarantee anything. Although I can't imagine there would be any surprises with this one.

Concept: We transform 100% of our Physical into fire damage with Xoph's Nurture and Signal Fire and then use emberwake to stack our ignites(100% chance on hit) like poison while every single ignite we cause creates a prolif zone. We also use CI with Ghost Reaver + Vaal Pact to be pretty much invincible all the while.

The Good:
+Stupid amounts of dps(20 bv stacks and no concEffect - 1,25milion dps;same but with concEffect - 2,69 mil.dps;add shock from vaal lightning trap - 5,67 mil. dps. But that's not all. Now add 10% of general double dipping damage per ignite on target, another 40% if you were hit by fire dmg recently and wise oak to all these numbers and you get the full picture of how silly it can get)
+CI, Reflect reduction and VP paired with solid hit damage ensures our survivability
+No need for health/mana flasks so you can stack all the unique/utility flasks you can think of
+FREE PROLIFS!!!(from xoph's Nurture) AND 100% chance to ignite. Saves you 4 ascendancy points and allows you to go even more crazy for dem stupid dps numbers
+Unlike poison we scale both hit and dot with most of the support gems and won't need to change anything when fighting ignite immune bosses
+we get to grab all the AoE increases including explosive impact

The Ugly:
=using a bow limits our mobility skill choices and doesn't give us access to fortify buff
=skill duration isn't as useful as with poison builds(will have to recast BV more often to retain its stacks)
=need dexterity on items since xoph's nurture requires a whooping 185 dex and there's not that many dex nodes in witch, templar and even shadow area (I ended up needing ~40 more)

The Bad:
-Can get somewhat expensive especially with this league's prices for good CI gear

Leveling: I chose to level with flameblast totems and fire trap since flameblast totems also benefit a lot from cast speed, AoE increases and fire damage and didn't require too much respec points in the end.

Mandatory Gear

For dmg Conversion and free prolif

for ignite stacking and creating a butt tons of mini prolifs

helps maintaining BV stacks

pretty obvious combo for emberwake but not as mandatory as you might think although I can imagine it being pretty useful against big bosses

not really mandatory but it's free penetration so why not? Just make sure to either equalize all resists or at least that your fire res is highest

Some alternatives to consider

-Another way to transform 100% of the phys dmg to fire is Ngamahu's flame + xoph's blood(or simply grabbing avatar of fire keystone). It would give us lots more damage, more fire penetration and access to fortify but we would have to go life instead of CI and we would lose prolifs
-There's probably some really cool hipster Hybrid build in here somewhere where you restore your es through ghost reaver and your life through xoph's nurture unique passive that restores your life every time you inflict ignite. But it would require taking life nodes on top of es nodes and you would have to worry about chaos resist, also most likely you would have to grab MoM. So overall it would result in less fire dmg nodes and it wouldn't be quite as optimal unfortunately
-You can safely switch taming for some good CI or opal ring(or maybe even a third curse with doedre's damning) as we have sufficient dps to kill most trash mobs by touching them without an opportunity to stack too many ignites.
-You can easily shave off some nodes with ignite chance and damage for more es nodes if you feel like it or want to play this in hardcore
-You can get a passive on the first bandits mission as we take plenty all res in the tree + there's free 12% all res in elementalist ascendancies. You probably still should side with kraityn to help you run ele weakness map modes without additional problems
