PCP and other drugs can make you semi-immune to tasers. There was a case in Chicago where one guy on PCP was tasered and he still proceeded to fuck the police officer's shit up. She needed facial reconstruction after that.

So instead of cops escalating a dangerous situation knowing they can just kill the fuck if shit goes south they're forced to learn how to deal with dangerous people and de-escalate. To me that's how it should be.

Also if they put more money and training towards non-lethal they would get better at using said practices so an incident like that in chicago would be the exception.

Sigh...and the cops wonder why people hate them.

Most people like and respect cops..sorry, but it's true! Most people wouldn't mind more police presence either.

haha..that's a good one. What rule do you have for criminals?

What people fail to see in this video is that the officer told the suspect several times to get on the ground while having a gun pointed at him... and then the guy reaches into his SUV. Also, an officer has no idea what drugs, if any, is affecting a person when confronting a suspect. Jury took 9 hours to deliberate. No question this is justified.
I want cut scenes damnit.

How can you not like steak?
Not a lawyer here, but judging from the video this looks like a voluntary manslaughter ( as imperfect self-defense). She should have been found guilty. Imho it ended like it did because she is a woman and he was a black man. Sad but likely.

They protected cops. Fine. Now how we protect those "no help to be murdered" ? (something is terribly wrong to say this)

Edit: Where can I find the texts of this decision ?

it's really tragic but justified, officer should face consequences

takes a special type of stupid to do PCP, go on a drive, get out in the middle of a highway, tell people your car is going to explode, and then fuck with the police instead of just complying, but definitely not something that warrants a death sentence.

Despite what others have said, I don't believe the shooting is an any way justified. No citizen should ever have to worry about being shot during a routine traffic stop, especially one where the police officer is operating over a "perceived threat" rather than a real one. "My life *could* have been in danger" is no excuse and police officers are given far too much leeway with this.

Anything can be considered a perceived threat, and often is. This is why so many officers get away with these types of shootings with little or no consequence. I'm still not convinced that race even played a factor in this particular shooting but ultimately it doesn't matter, the man simply didn't deserve to be shot. He could have been tased instead. Would the taser have been effective? We'll never know but she never even attempted it. This shoot as a first resort policy has got to go.

I'm friends with a retired police officer who says he has had encounters with men on PCP before. He's pretty large, and always has been (mostly it's fat now), but in his prime he was a gorilla.

According to him, he was in a situation where he needed to subdue a man on PCP who was resisting arrest by himself. My friend was bending the man's arm back behind him and was unable to subdue him easily. My friend didn't realize how dangerous the situation was until he popped the man's arm out without any reaction from him.

I agree that the cop in this situation reacted poorly and unprofessionally. She should have faced charges of some nature. That said, from my friend's accounts of situations he has handled in the past, I can understand the level of fear an officer may have when facing an opponent they know is on PCP.

It's too late now, though. The most we can hope for is that she is permanently suspended, and is never again allowed to serve. That would be getting off light. She fatally shot a man when she had a partner she could have relied on to assist her in subduing him without discharging her weapon.

Even when some one is on PCP, they can comprehend English. If he looks coherent and is acting coherent, odds are good he is coherent and can be talked down (or convinced through deceit) into cooperating with you.

I think body cams would solve a lot of issues we have today. It would show civilians the cop's perspective, so we better understand some of the extremes we see on television/read in the news. Likewise, it would hold officers to a higher accountability, since their actions are being monitored more closely with video and audio recording. It might even save some of them from being persecuted, with proof of their innocence to prevent civilian lynch mobs from crying out for blood when innocent cops defended themselves justly.
Bring back race seasons.
