bad luck, i had that chest twice in my last 3 visits of the thicket... (sadly i haven't payed attention how often i got it earlier...)

I farmed it a lot in cruel and estimate mine at like 15% maybe. Sorry for the RNG aggro, better luck in the future!
GGG claim that they improved the large chest chance in the Catacombs, because it does not contain the quest yet. I ran the Catacombs 23 times and got 3 large chests, so chances for Dread Thicket are even slimmer.

And if you get a large chest..........only disappointment.

Think of large chests as a nice surprise instead of actively trying to farm for them.

It's not like they are that great anyway.

Ran catas... way too often now and would put the chance at about 20-25%.

I feel like they are even worse than normal chests. But that's probably because of the expectations I have when I actually see one.

I'm pretty sure that the "appearance rate" of large chests plummets as you outlevel the zone. They probably don't want people running through zones they vastly outlevel w/o fear, grabbing the large chest (if it's there), killing the unique(s), then doing it over again. I leveled from 33-40 in Catacombs on my Marauder today (is my first HC char, playing it safe). I got a large chest about half the time until I hit 38, then I got 1 in 5 runs. When I dinged 39, I didn't get a single one out of 10+ tries. I eventually hit 40, did a few MORE runs and gave up on ever seeing one again.

Going from 50% (out of 15 or so runs) to 20% (out of 5 runs) to 0% (out of 10+ runs) is a large jump, large enough to give my small sample size some significance. It's possible it was a coincidence, but the drastic disparity makes that unlikely. While I only have anecdotal evidence to support this hypothesis, it makes sense from a game design perspective too and fits with the rest of the design philosophy.

Could any devs chime in on this? Should we not expect large chests running dungeons that are more than 8 levels (or perhaps a %) below ours? Barring that, I'd be interested to hear other people's experiences. With enough data we can figure out whether my experience was a fluke or indicative of some kind of TLC for chests.

I hate this nerf just like i hate that removal of PR. Used to be a sweet spot to farm, now its completely pointless off the track hole in the wall.
