Why is barrage so much better than any other single target skill?

additional arrows (duyng sun, quiver, GMP etc.) don't do damage to the same target. you still hit the target 4 times, but now can hit other targets in an wider angle

Said like someone who's never used Barrage before...

In case you don't know, Barrage is unique in that additional projectiles are fired in succession, rather than alongside. So you do get additional hits.

On Topic:

Probably for the same reason why Tornado Shot is better than most single target skills...

On its own, level 20 Tornado Shot is 109% damage, and hits twice (Initial projectile going through them, then the secondary projectile) for 218% damage.

Add in GMP, Death's Opus and Dying Sun for 8 more projectiles and you'll be doing 10 hits at 83% base damage or 830% base damage on a single target.

In addition to also dealing good AoE damage because a billion arrows flying everywhere and having inherent pierce...

Essentially, these are skills that get ST benefit from more projectiles. So they become so much better than other single target skills because more projectiles = 100% more damage. No other modification you can do can give 100% more damage. So other skills are left in the dust.

What led you to this conclusion? Barrage doesn't function like other skills.

i was terribly wrong, sorry)
Does firing so many arrows lock you in the firing animation? If so, you cannot move the more you fire which could be bad...

As far as I recall, the number of arrows you shoot doesn't affect the length of the animation.
Maybe for balance reasons.Ranged builds aren't built for close contact but Barrage requires you to be closeish.Safer skills with large range allow you to hold your attacks for longer. Also you have skills like Puncture that do DoT damage meaning you can do hit and run more effectively.

No, it has the same animation time. You can test it by using greater multiple projectiles attached to check.

But you know, the only real challenges in the game are Uber Atziri and Shaper, and none of them moves.

You actually only need your build to be able to kill them since other bosses in the game are pretty easy, except for guardians maybe, which don't move a lot too

Yeah, that was my point actually, to boost other skills the same way. But GGG always think of nerfs only, but that wasn't the point.

From these two quotes, seems like nerfing is indeed the way to go here.

So people like you can whine about and give GGG a free pass to nerf it to wild strike levels in 3.0.

As a paralel:

Why do melee skills not feel impactful and gritty enough? Why does my reave feel like a spell?

So GGG can nerf iaoe so hard melee would never see the light of day again.
