How is it possible to make up the resistance for the Lightning Coil and Abyssus?
Or even the Lightning Coil for that matter. My duelist has decent resistance right now but he's getting a good chunk of resistance from his body armour. My ultimate goal is to get a Lightning Coil and Abyssus but I don't see the numbers working out for even the Lightning Coil (I'm getting some resistance from my helmet too).

You counter Lightning coil with using Purity of lightning over other defensive auras,
you counter Abyssus with having Immortal call up and you don't use those two together |

you just get decent resists on the rest of your gear basically, all my lightning coil builds run either a rats nest or a starkonjas hood, neither of which have resists. Its easier if you use a shield, but my bow raider uses a coil and a nest with an all dps quiver that has no resist, I just cap from boots, gloves, belt and rings, I think I might have 12% all res on my amulet.

"I'm starting to wonder why Lightning Coil is so popular. Having to run Purity of Lightning instead of something else and forgoing other equipment to stack resistance seems like a huge sacrifice to me. And if you can take the steep penalty from Abyssus without the damage mitigation from Lightning Coil (and it's in fact preferable to do so) then why does something like Lightning Coil need to exist? "Sorry, but I really don't see this adding up. Even looking at your character screen it doesn't seem to. You would need 220% lightning resistance to counter Lightning Coil. I'm also curious as to what are considered the best alternatives to Lightning Coil. |

" It's honestly extremely easy to cap lig res with coil. Example: Get rings with 35 + 16 all res + 16 implicit. You got 134. Get remaining on boots, gloves, ammy and/or shield.. Run abyssus in head, rock and roll. ''It was nice but not really great'' in memory of rondanashu 13.4.2016

Usually whenever I'm in trouble with resists I try to get better rings, a better belt or nicely rolled two-toned boots. Usually helps.
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.

" I wouldnt run purity of lightning, at the point you are running an aura to use it youre probably better off just working out some other defense. -60% merciless, -60% coil, thats -120%, you need +75% to cap so thats 195% lightning resist from gear. If you want ele weak cap then just have some kind of gear swap for those maps imo. My coil dagger evasion ranger has the following lightning res... gloves: 44% boots: 40% Belt: 25% Ring: 33% Shield 53% total 195% light resist, capped. If I want to be ele weak capped I take off my rats nest and put on a hat with resist. If i wanted to be ele weak capped without using my hat slot Id just get another 35% on my other ring. You could get 45% on the belt, thats another 20, and then take cloth and chain on the tree which gives another 15% for 2 points along with ar+ev%, and your ele weakcapped again. Its not actually that hard tbh. If you are an evasion build there is no alternative to coil imo, maybe kaoms I guess? I still would just use a coil I think its better. For armour theres simply a rare armour chest. Personally I wouldnt use an abyssus. Dps hat? sure, rats nest, starkonjas, devotos... abyssus? bit too sketchy for my tastes.
