Is AFK merciless Kole something to write home about?

I guess not. Gonna test it against other bosses soon, but here's Merciless Kole for the moment:

Using dual Razor of the Seventh Sun with three CWDT setups:
- Firestorm + Chance to Ignite + Concentrated Effect (maybe inc. duration would be better?)
- Ball Lightning + Chance to Ignite + Slower Projectiles
- Blade Vortex + Chance to Ignite + Increased Duration

Besides the reserved slots (and having to use dual Razors of course) this doesn't hamper your offensive qualities in the slightest. Currently doing a Chieftain with Avatar of Fire and Ice Crash with Cold to Fire in a 5L, Blasphemy + Flammability + Warlord's Mark and HoA, works pretty well up to T10 so far. Against non-bosses you are basically unkillable, even standing in large packs. Never have to pot unless there's some non-hitting damage flying around.

I usually use a different helmet, but didn't have the currency to roll three blues on my main one for the Firestorm setup.

No Uber Izaro yet, but merc Izaro with conduits. Too tired for uber lab today, died twice in traps :(

I switched the Firestorm setup from conc effect to inc duration, and it seems to work even better.

That build is a dead end, you're wasting your time. Terrible single target dps. And no, nothing pre-maps matters, certainly not act 3 Cole.

Actually I think Kole is not THAT a bad gauge for afking especially, because his damage output is pretty high and consistent. But yeah, gonna test it against harder bosses, too. It's not really supposed to be an end-game viable build though, just some semi-serious try to outheal the damage of most bosses. The AFK part of the build is just done in Standard, I have the same Chieftain in Legacy with only a single CWDT setup for packs.

I don't think the build is a dead end, it works quite well so far, and I can still switch it up a bit if Ice Crash is not going to work out (still I think 25k dps without factoring penetration in yet on a 5L is not terrible with crap gear).

I was not aware of that build, thanks for linking it. The premise is the same, but the details are quite different, though (mine is much less thought-through and tested). I'm gonna see how far just three skills from CWDT can take me, because I don't think the 6 skills he uses at the same time is gonna be good for FPS.

Doesn't Shaper throw around lots of DoT damage spells? CWDT doesn't trigger from DoT damage, unfortunately (or luckily, maybe, because it needs a downside, too).

Also, the specific skills chosen here for high amount of ignites per second don't work that well with enemies that reposition frequently. You have to be in melee range for Blade Vortex to hit, Firestorm launches all projectiles on the position the enemy had when the spell was triggered, and Ball Lightning has only mediocre range with Slower Projectiles and its AoE isn't great either.
