How the hell do you do dps in this game?

EQ is very specific skill because of its "strange" aps scaling. You have it optimized so that you dont lose damage coming from secondary explosions, right? One of the expensive possibilities is using enchant and scale aps to very high levels, but you cant do that on the left side of the tree... 1H + shield + block will never be dps beast, but there are ways.. this is the gear my last league EQ juggernaut tank was using. damage was decent to kill T15 bosses relatively fast.. wondering if you find out what it was doing there..

You stack damage affixes and use the right combination of gems.

yeah, I wanted to add lots of chaos damage and be able to scale it together with phys. the boot enchant is huge, considering it is up all of the time

If you want to handle end game content PERFECTLY, you just need to spend a few hundred exalts. That is about it.

I've often asked myself this same question. As a scrub, the answers I came up with was:
(1) Gem level and quality (2) Gear I feel like I've got a handle on (2) now (although there is a huge gap between understanding the effect and getting the gear to implement that effect), and I am working on understanding (1) better. You need to know what gem synergies work, and, as a lot of people indicated, tooltip is deceiving - it's the old "if the mobs are dying fast your dps is fine" motto. I don't think the tooltip really takes into account resist penetration, for instance? Also the power difference between gem level 1 and 20, and quality 1% and 20% is incredible. And then the lucky Vaal lvl 21, and even further additional levels from gear or an Enhance gem, can make serious inroads in your doubts about dps. Last season I slowly reached an Ancestral Warchief tooltip dps of 50,000 with increased AOE and 75,000+ with conc effect, per totem. I am having those same dps misgivings as this season I just hit level 69 with a flame totem tooltip of 5000..................it never goes away! |

" Tooltip doesn't take penetration into account, no. It can't - penetration damage boosts are conditional on the enemy and can't be reported to the player. Same for conditional damage modifiers like Hypothermia - the 'More' modifier on Hypothermia requires the target to be Chilled, so it's conditional on enemy state and thus goes completely unreported. Poison, Bleed, and Ignite DPS is also unreported, which is why my maybe-10k AssReacher is still my inarguable best character at boss-slaughtering. At least until double-dipping goes away. That's one big reason why so many older players tell so many newer players "fugget your tooltip. Unless you know how to interpret it, it does nothing for you. Go by how the build feels, not what the numbers say - if the build feels bad, then and only then do you look at the numbers and try to figure out where, how, and why." And we all screw it sometimes. I still can't get my Rift Walker to work right, when everything I otherwise know about PoE tells me it should be one of the strongest characters I've ever built. Just used my 2.6.0 respec (sorta had to, Ranger base, they fiddled with muh tree), and while it helped, the character is still nowhere near as awesome as she should be. Sigh, remind yourself to try and figure out why the character isn't working, then either work to rebuild it or start again and see if you can apply any of the lessons you've learned. Only real way to go. She/Her

though to be honest, i have no idea how people can't get over 50k dps. 150-200k dps is pretty easy for almost every skill. (not all builds, but almost any skill gem).
right now im lvl 52 with over 5k DPS playing SSF, for example. with charges, flasks, buffs, auras, ascendancy, passives, support gems, half decent weapons, how does one not break 35k dps? |

I don't quite get what is the OPs question and aim? Does he want a build that actually feels good to play and clears stuff fast,or he just wants a huge tooltip to boast about and can't seem to get it up there?
Also a fruit for thought: There is a difference between DPS and DPS. No rest for the wicked.

6L is the biggest factor, even more important than gem quality and level.
Your skill of choice matters, a bit, because some skills have bigger base number than others. Sunder recent base buff pushed my HO dps from 120k to 170k. Lacerate, ST and bow skills in general have lower tooltip but not necessarily worse clearspeed because of the way they function. Abyssus doubles the dps of most builds especially crit 1H or DW melee. There is risk of equipping such item but I personally feel more comfortable with it than not. I try to compensate with 193% Inc life from tree. |

DPS come from sinergy or what you may call hiden links to your attack skill. Normal game play consist of regular links but high end game play consist of abuilty and utility, replecing redundancies and geting maximum effect. This is my end game bow, silly luking for awrage play becouse they dont see whats hiden but ther i am one shoting Vool, thats just a hit what do you think of dps then. |
