PathOfExile.exe vs. PathOfExile_x64.exe

Hi everyone,

Noob question here. What's the difference between PathOfExile.exe and PathOfExile_x64.exe? I just noticed I have both in my PoE install folder.

I have a strange feeling I should be using the latter but think I've been using the former for a while. I run Win10 64bit.

Thanks, friends.

32 bit vs 64 bit. Run x64 if you have x64 system.

Thanks!
The one with 64 in its name is a 64-bit version of the game client which uses DirectX 11. This means the game client will generally be a bit more demanding, but it should have better FPS and use more advanced rendering techniques to make a prettier looking game.

There's a million and one different hardware & software set-ups, though - so it's never any harm to test both to see which client seems to work the best on your system.

apparently this also depends on which DX version you use though. DX9/DX9EX are 32bit client and DX11Beta is the 64bit client. you have to use DX11 to use the 64bit client. even if you launch using the 64bit exe, if you are running DX9 it is going to use 32bit.

Same problem here. I have an amd pc with a radeon R9 280 + windows 10 64bit. Before the update 2.6 I had crashes every 2 or 3 hours. After the update 2.6 I have a crash every 1 hour or even less

Other demanding games like The Division run on DX12 for hours without a problem, so I think my pc is ok and stable

your issue is quite different from the other posts, i would recommend opening another thread.
can you reproduce the crashes at certain points in the gameplay?

Not so different. Yesterday I saw a player on twitch with a pc corei + GTX960 having the same problem with the dx11 version of the game.

Totally different - the person who created the thread didn't mention crashes.

They were asking for information and your post is totally unrelated. Create your own thread.
