PoE From First Person perspective? Third mode? MMO? Immersion
This is 1 of 2 separate ideas, that have a lot to do with each other. I just wanted to discuss them separately, but will link the other idea, when I write it.
Playing PoE, I noticed that the Aesthetics of the game often are lost in the multitude of effects of spells. I have to stop and zoom in to see the beautiful details of armor, the environment or even enemy mobs. The sad part is that you cannot play the game ( effectively) with your zoom to the max. So that made me ponder, if we could get a mode from first person perspective. It could be made in form of a third mode ( next to normal and hardcore), it could be a separate game, in the form of an MMO. It seems to me they already got a finished game graphically, most 3D objects etc. That would only leave the controls. How to aim from a first person perspective ( from hence FPP). If it would be a third mode ( but same game) it could work similar to smite. You can watch the world in 3D, but everything moves ( spells, attacks) in 2D ( in a planar plane). I think that Smite tackled this problem excellently and that it could be implemented in PoE for the FPP. In the form of an MMO, it could work very cool ofcourse, but would require more resources. We could have a combat system where you can swing from different angles, block from different angles, move in 3D, aim in 3D, climb trees, and what not. ( i do not like tab targeting tho). THe third mode is really much more realistic to make, tho an MMO would have endless possibilities. An MMO could use the basic game mechanics, and extras ( won't write them, as i trust GGG to have plenty of their own ideas as well, maybe if they announce an MMO in progress :). I'm proposing this because I'd like a greater immersion with the game. While this is not the only possibility, it is one of them. Thinking of wandering through act 4 from a FPP makes me chill, facing off Brutus in Act 1, evading jumping goatmen with a dash, visit the crypts or bask in the sunlight in act 2, touring through piety's mansion in act 3. Facing off enemies face to face. These things would make me enjoy PoE even more. I hope GGG can tell us what they think about it and if they already thought about it, while the community can propose possible problems and solutions, without non constructive comments or jabs. I will link the other idea when i eventually sit down and write it aswell. Last edited by Zlajke#7196 on Jan 21, 2017, 1:24:02 PM Last bumped on Jan 21, 2017, 5:25:49 PM

I think I posted a suggestion like this 5 years ago. Back then they still answered stuff on the fora and the reply was that the model designs are not made for first person views. In human language this means that if you would be able to see the other side of the walls and non-moving objects in the game, you would see unfinished strange stuff.
But I still would love to shoot arrows or spells like in your average 3d RPG. You also will see answers that the action RPG type game is not suited very well for the first person action. This might be true, but I would still love to play first person just for the kicks. | |
This game is going to either look piss poor from 1st person, or if it looks good enough, it will run at 1-3 frames per second in your hideout. #fuckingpoorlyoptimizedgameengine
3rd person, like in WOW is going to have the same issues as 1st person perspective. Yeah, this is an MMO. Haven't you heard? Too bad you can't do much, though. Trading works via a 3rd party platform, party play can slow this game to a crawl fps wise, and there is not much going on in terms of party relevant builds either: There's aura "bots", and people who run services, and that's about it. Immersion? Like....... In POE...? Not gonna happen... I am so far from being immersed in this game, that I don't care about how things actually look... This game doesn't make me want to puke because of how it looks, but it will never be "nice" to look at to begin with... Basically, this piece of software is way toooooo fucking old for anything that you could possibly want, and since GGG is now working on their half-assed XBox release, you can bet both your lungs that it isn't gonna get prettier anytime soon anyways...
It's just, like, people's opinions, man. But I cannot respect motherf♪♫♫♪rs calling something a simulator, when it isn't one.
Mors edited this post first. It would drastically increase the work that the visual artists have to do. Lighting and Shadow engines would need to be redesigned, sides of terrain objects that aren't normally visible will need textures/models added to them etc.
And how would you control with the mouse and keyboard? They'd need to add an all new input/controls system as well. Lastly no one would use it because it is already hard enough to see enemies around you. Being unable to see anywhere except in front of you would result in your death. Computer specifications:

" Yea, there would be work. I didn't think they could make a third mode in 5 seconds. But a lot of the work is already done. About the control system, i mentioned that. Try Smite, that was an idea for controls. Lastly, it's a third mode, it can always be differently balanced, tho first we'd need to try it to see how it goes. |
