Scorching Ray and Infernal Mantle

After a fair amount of testing I am pretty sure that Infernal Mantle is not converting any of the fire damage of Scorching Ray to Chaos damage (but it is to the linked Cast on Channeling skill of Rain of Fire).

I doubt this is working as intended. It does not mention Chaos damage in the tooltip nor does it seem to be applying it.

Hope this gets fixed soon as it seems to be a logical combination. I haven't tested it with the similar in effect Atziri's Promise flask yet as I need to gain a level first.

Scorching Ray is not a direct-damage spell, but rather a degeneration effect just like Righteous Fire.

Hence, damage conversions do not apply.

Just like when you're using The Pyre as a Vortex characters, only the initial hit is converted to fire while the damage-over-time ground-effect stays cold.

Actually from the descriptions I do not think this is the case.

The description for RF is "Enemies Burn for 50% of your maximum Life per second as Fire Damage"

The description for SR is "Deals (9.7-519.9) Fire Damage per second"

So while RF just burns, SR does direct fire damage as well as stacking burning. The burning should not be converted to Chaos damage but the fire damage from the beam should.

The per second part is what defines it as burning damage. Compare an empty red socket with Increased Burning Damage support if you want to test it in game.

Regardless I agree that damage over time should also be able to be converted.

I think the game developers agree but it is just too hard to write the code to make it that way and they have been working on making or fixing other things that are easier.

Was going to argue but well, as there's no such thing as "direct" damage category in the game, then what you and bob_ck said have no meaning whatsoever.
SR does fire damage over time but it doesn't hit, and DoT can't be converted, that's all what can be said about it.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

"Direct damage" would translate into "hit" in PoE terms. And since Scorch doesn't hit, its damage can't be converted. Also of note is since it's not a hit, resistance penetration is useless for it.
Damage-over-time cannot be converted, so this is working correctly.
