I find the extra armour helps with the new map mod that decreases your armour by 50%, and armour is less effective against big hits from bosses (so I've heard) so having more doesn't hurt. AA also reduces phys and fire damage taken by 10% and since some of the phys damage you take is converted to fire I feel like there's some double dipping damage reduction happening there? That's probably not how it works, though.

I also now get 5,000 extra armour from the helmet compared to a rare helmet with the same amount of armour, 186-188% elemental resists in hideout, and 8,085 life.

I've done a few uber runs with no problems at all. Don't be afraid to stand still for a bit because you need to wait for your SR and FS to ramp up for about two to three seconds.
