"The Beast"/"The Nightmare" or whatever its true name is, has many obvious ties to Cthulhu. It is a powerful supernatural entity sleeping beneath the earth that can ignore natural laws and impose its own; Kaom and Daresso, trapped in dreams, tormented endlessly with visions of grandeur or failure and created by this supernatural entity. That sound familiar?
Admittedly, Cthulhu was sleeping beneath the ocean. And the dreams and visions he sent caused insanity. It's arguable that Wraeclast's own eldritch abomination was the cause of King Kaom's insanity, however. True, Kaom was always ruthless and ambitious. But in the end, he sacrificed his people and performed evil deeds to reach "The Beast"/"The Nightmare". Who's to say the visions it sent didn't make him go mad? Bring back race seasons.
